November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, so did you know lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK?
Many people believe it only affects the elderly or those who smoke or have previously smoked, but it can affect anyone with a pair of lungs.
It also has the highest mortality rate, making it crucial that cases are diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible to improve the chance of survival.
For patients who experienced a delay to diagnosis or faced misdiagnosis of lung cancer, which subsequently impacted their health or caused suffering, it may be possible to make a clinical negligence claim.
Our helpful lung cancer claim guide looks at when a claim can be made plus some FAQs about lung cancer compensation claims. https://www.medical-solicitors.com/medical-negligence/cancer-claims/lung-cancer/

Our Hull team are looking forward to attending the Women in Business Hull charity lunch on Friday.
The lunch will be in aid of Abbie's Fund, a charity which provides memory boxes and compassionate support to families grieving the loss of a baby.
Our very own Lynsey Furley has also been asked to be a guest speaker, having previously been supported by the charity following the loss of her baby daughter.
A bereavement midwife will also speak about the vital role their care plays in supporting families through grief.

Our Sheffield team have also been getting into the festive spirit early this year 🎄🎁
They’ve chosen to take part in Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child appeal, and their shoe boxes are all packed, wrapped and dropped off ahead of the national collection week which starts on Monday.
These gifts will then be sent to children around the world.

It's the first Friday in November, Halloween and Bonfire Night are over, so is it okay to mention the C word? 🎅
Well, we're getting into the festive spirit early this year as we're supporting the Santa Squad - Hull Christmas toy appeal.

Our Hull office is a drop-off point where people can donate new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages. These are then distributed to Hull children who may otherwise wake up without a gift on Christmas morning.

If you live in Hull and want to get involved, they regularly post gift ideas on their page or they have an Amazon Wishlist set up here https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/1LKQE6MPH1UEW

Donations need to be in before 12th December when our team will be delivering them to the Santa Squad team and volunteering with the mammoth task of wrapping them all!

For , we’re answering an FAQ we often get from people thinking about making a medical negligence claim:
“What do I need to get the claim started?”

To begin an initial conversation, you don’t need everything right away but it helps if you have:
🔹A basic timeline of events
🔹Records you may have kept such as consent forms, treatment letters, appointment logs, or discharge summaries
🔹Details of any official complaints you’ve filed
🔹Proof of how it affected you physically, financially and emotionally

This might seem like a lot of information but you don’t need to be fully prepared, just ready to talk.
Once we’ve discussed your experience, our team can help you request your medical records (you’re entitled to them) and conduct some initial investigations to determine whether you have a good chance of success.

If you choose to go ahead, our team of lawyers will be there for you at every step of the way. Whether it’s a friendly ear if you have any questions or regular updates as we progress your case, our team are renowned for going over and above to reduce any stress about what can feel like an overwhelming process.

Ready to get started?
Speak to our team on 0114 250 7100, use our webchat facility on our website, or send an initial email to help@medical-solicitors.com.

For , here are two cases that our specialist medical lawyers, Caroline and Matthew, have settled relating to errors with stroke.

𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞'𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞
The claimant suffered two rare cerebellar strokes after treatment with an osteopath. Following his first visit where a HVT was performed on his neck, the claimant experienced severe headaches, pain on both sides of his neck, dizziness and visual disturbances. Despite these symptoms - all warning signs of stroke - the osteopath performed neck manipulation again during a follow-up appointment.
Due to the strokes, the claimant was left with permanent brain damage and had to give up his successful business due to his injuries.

𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐰'𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞
This claimant experienced a sudden aching sensation in her right arm and believed she was having a stroke. Paramedics determined she was FAST positive and she was blue-lighted to hospital where she was diagnosed as having a TIA or mini stroke. TIAs can be a warning sign of a stroke so she was admitted to the acute stroke ward for observation.
However, in the early hours, the claimant felt increasing weakness in her right hand and reported this to a healthcare assistant who encouraged her to go back to sleep. But when she woke the next morning, she was paralysed down her right side.
