For the last few years, Citizen Network, a Sheffield-based 'think tank', has been working with disabled people, community leaders and people in the system to develop ideas to transform the approach to care. They are are holding an event on 23rd April from 5 – 7.30pm at the Energy Hub on Pinstone Street to help bring about change and identify community leaders interested in the idea of Neighbourhoods of Care.

Last year the Government deferred any decision on changes to personal independence payment until a committee had completed investigations including consultation with Disabled People. .As part of this process the Timms Review has opened a call for evidence asking “individuals and organisations with lived or learned experience, knowledge and expertise“ to share their experiences of PIP. Ready to lead a team that makes a real difference in the lives of disabled people across Sheffield? We’re looking for a passionate Advocacy Manager to drive our independent advocacy and information services while mentoring a dedicated team of professionals, providing Maternity Cover for our current Advocacy Manager. As a key member of our management team and our Designated Safeguarding Lead, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring high-quality support and empowering our community to be heard.

🟢Job Details
Job title: Advocacy Manager – Maternity Leave Cover
Office Location: The Circle, 33 Rockingham Lane, Sheffield, S1 4FW
Salary: £32,000 Pro Rata (subject to pay review 1st April)
Pension: 6% employer contribution, 2% employee contribution (minimum)
Hours: 28 hours per week
Contract Type: Fixed term – 12 months Maternity Leave cover
Reports to: Chief Executive
Line management: Advocacy and Information Service staff

Disability Sheffield Centre for Independent Living is a ‘not for profit’ pan-impairment organisation driven by people who self-define as disabled people, whether they have a physical disability, a sensory impairment, a mental health condition or learning difficulties.

🟢Main Purpose of the Job
To be accountable for the delivery, promotion and development of an independent advocacy and information service for disabled people. The Advocacy Manager will work to deliver an effective, efficient and high-quality service by managing, supervising and supporting individual advocates, the information officer and the collective team.

Sheff Doc-Fest Call for Videos from People with Autism or Learning Disabilities
As part of their ongoing collaboration, Sheffield DocFest and ArtWorks Together have announced that they are looking for people 18+ who have Autism and/or a Learning Disability to submit mini documentairies around the theme of “Something I Want You To Know…”.

Shortlisted films will be presented at a special showcase screening during Sheffield DocFest on 10th June 2026, where the winner will be announced.
