This Stress Awareness Month: Take action to prevent work-related stress

Did you know that nearly 1 million workers in the UK reported work-related stress, depression, or anxiety in 2024/25? But here’s the key: work-related stress is preventable.

As an employer, you have a legal duty to assess and manage this risk to protect your team’s well-being.

HSE’s Management Standards provide a clear framework to help you manage key areas of work design that, if left unchecked, can lead to:

🔸 Poor mental health
🔸 Reduced productivity
🔸 Increased absenteeism

Here are the six critical areas to focus on:

🔹 Demands – Are workloads manageable?
🔹 Control – Do employees have input into their work processes?
🔹 Support – Is sufficient support available from colleagues and management?
🔹 Relationships – Are workplace relationships positive?
🔹 Role – Are roles and expectations clear?
🔹 Change – Are changes managed and communicated effectively?

By reviewing these areas, you can identify stress risks and engage your team in creating a healthier, more productive work environment.

This is a key focus of HSE’s Working Minds campaign—helping employers prevent stress and improve mental health in the workplace.

A new 24/7 mental health crisis text support is now live! 📱🩵

From today, people living in Coventry and Warwickshire can text ‘CWHOPE’ to 85258 to start a confidential conversation with a mental health professional at any time of day or night.

We know that reaching out for help can be incredibly difficult, especially in moments of distress, and not everyone feels able to speak on the phone. By partnering with Shout, we are expanding the ways people can access support and ensuring help is available in a way that feels safe and discreet.

Mother’s Day on social media can feel like a flood of happy photos, and celebrations of family. But we know for so many of you that today can be a reminder of loss, longing, or complicated and painful feelings.

There's so many reasons why today can be tough, many more than just what we’ve listed, and we want you to know that if you’re carrying any type of heavy feelings or ache today, you’re absolutely not alone, there are so many others who are feeling the weight of this day in their own ways. We’re always here for you if you need to talk on 116 123.

We talk a lot about anxiety.

But we do not always talk about how it shows up in men.

It does not always look like worry. It does not always look like panic.

Sometimes it looks like:
Poor sleep.Snapping over small things.Withdrawing.Working longer hours.Carrying everything quietly.

There is often a pressure to cope. To provide. To just get on with it.

But strong does not mean silent.

Over the years I have worked with many men who would describe themselves as “fine”. And yet underneath that word is tension, mental overload, and a nervous system that has been running on high alert for far too long.

Stress left unmanaged does not disappear. It stores itself in the body. In sleep. In mood. In habits.

Through one to one hypnotherapy sessions and personalised recordings, we work calmly and privately to reset the nervous system, reduce mental noise, and restore a sense of steadiness.
No drama. No judgement.Just practical, effective tools.

If you, or someone close to you, is carrying more than they are saying… support is available.

Strong does not mean silent.

Help is available 🤍
