World Book Day can be lovely, but for many families it also brings a surprising amount of stress. Parents often feel the pressure of getting everything ready such as finding a costume, remembering the book, and trying to get out of the house on time. At the same time, children can spend the week building excitement about the day.
When those two experiences meet, a parent who is feeling rushed and a child who is feeling overwhelmed, things can quickly tip into tears or frustration, particularly if something does not go to plan in the morning.
You are not a bad parent. What often happens in these moments is simply the build up of emotional energy and excitement that children do not yet have the skills to regulate.
If you find that similar situations are happening regularly in daily life, with emotions escalating quickly or mornings frequently becoming stressful, it may be a helpful point to pause and consider whether some additional support could make things easier.
Therapeutic parenting support and children’s therapy can help families understand what might be happening underneath those moments.
One of the most common patterns we see is that families wait until things feel very difficult before reaching out for help. In reality, support can be most effective when challenges are still relatively low level and when patterns are just beginning to emerge. Early intervention often prevents situations from escalating and helps both parents and children develop strategies that make everyday life feel calmer and more manageable.
At Inspire You we offer support for the whole family to help you navigate these challenges together. Sessions take place at The Shoreham Centre and we offer a free 15 minute discovery call if you would like to talk through what support might look like for your family.
