After five long days of Yin Yoga training immersed in elements - but inside, studying, in Kindred Yoga studio in Deptford - I was longing to get back outside and reconnect with them myself.
This morning’s walk did not disappoint. These are my findings: wood, fire, earth*, metal, water - in line with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The sun wasn’t very fiery today but I created my own heat striding up a steep hill!
What’s the connection? Yin Yoga is practised with the principles of the meridian/channel system which is a core concept in TCM.
Confused about elements? Hope this summary helps...
🔸The Four Elements: Earth, water, air, fire. Origin: ancient Greek philosophy. The fundamental building blocks of the physical universe.
🔸TCM Five Elements: Wood, fire, earth, metal, water. Origin: ancient China. A complex medical system used for diagnosis and treatment of the human body and mind.
🔸The Chakra System Five Elements: Earth, water, air, fire, ether/space. Origin: ancient Indian tradition. A concept describing seven energy centres or “wheels,” running through the astral body from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.
*btw I found some other incredible fungi let me know if you’d like to see more?! 🍄
