Last week, Charles visited Bracken House Residential Home to personally present their Care to Smile Award, a well deserved recognition of their commitment to improving oral health for their residents. The home had been due to attend our awards ceremony in June but were sadly unable to join us on the day.

A huge thank you to Skye (Manager), the mouth care leads, and all the staff at Bracken House for your dedication to improving oral health. Your efforts make a real difference.

The Care to Smile Awards celebrate nursing and residential care homes across Staffordshire who have worked hard to meet the Care to Smile standards, based on NICE guidance. The programme is delivered by the Healthy Smile Team and supported by Staffordshire County Council. 🏆

🕯️ Lest We Forget.

Today we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of all those who gave their lives in war and conflict.

We remember them. We thank them. We will never forget.

🩻World Radiography Day is celebrated on the 8th of November each year.

The date marks the anniversary of the discovery of x-radiation by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, a Professor at Wuerzburg University in Germany in 1895 and celebrates the vital role in diagnostic imaging.
One of his first images was of his wife, Bertha’s hand.

🎃 HAPPY HALLOWEEN from the Healthy Smile Team👻

With help from the Oral Health Foundation, we have 5 ways to keep little smiles healthy this Halloween with our tooth friendly trick or treating tips:
1️⃣ Sweets at Mealtimes Only
Limit sugary snacks to mealtimes to reduce how long teeth are exposed to sugar.
2️⃣ Fewer Houses = Fewer Sweets
Cut down the number of houses you visit to help manage the sugar stash.
3️⃣ No Sweets Before Bed
Avoid sweets within an hour of bedtime as teeth are more vulnerable to decay at night.
4️⃣ Brush with Fluoride Toothpaste
Supervise brushing before bed using toothpaste with 1450ppm fluoride. It’s essential when saliva levels drop overnight!
5️⃣ Swap for Tooth-Friendly Treats
Offer sugar-free or savoury alternatives like fruit 🍎, cheese 🧀, nuts 🥜, or breadsticks 🥯 very tasty and tooth-safe!

🦷 Let’s make Halloween fun and healthy!

🚭 Quit Smoking, Save Your Smile
Smokers are 2x more likely to lose their teeth than non-smokers. Smoking is one of the leading causes of gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss.
Ditch the habit and protect your pearly whites!

👅 Taste the Difference
Smoking dulls your sense of taste and smell. Quitting can help you enjoy your food again!

🦠 Bad Breath Alert
To***co causes persistent bad breath and stains teeth. Fresh breath starts with a smoke-free life.

🧬 Oral Cancer Risk
Smoking increases your risk of mouth, throat, and lip cancer. Early detection saves lives and regular dental checkups are key.

💡 Did You Know?
Even smokeless to***co can damage your gums and increase your risk of oral cancer. There’s no safe way to use to***co.

Tag some friends or family below to let them know you've beaten smoking
