The first of our FAQ Friday questions to be answered -

What happenes to any metal left behind eg prosthetics or plates?

A very good question.
Firstly when arranging the funeral and completing the paperwork with the funeral director there is a section on the cremation form that asks if you would like to have the metals retained and returned to you or if you would be happy for the metals to be recycled.
Once the cremation has taken place the cremation technician removes any metals that are left following the cremation process ( It's important to note that soft metals like gold and silver can melt into tiny globules and mix with the cremated remains, making them impossible to return separately). If a family has asked to retain the metals these are then placed into a bag and clearly labeled before being returned to the family. If the family are happy for the metals to be recycled these are then placed into special recycling bins that are then collected throughout the year.
The money then raised from the recycling of the metals is shared between the crematoriums to then be donated to local charities. In 2024 we donated £8000 to Severn Hospice and this year we have just donated £5000 to Hope House & Tŷ Gobaith

On the 11th hour of the 11th day
Remembrance day offers us a chance to pause, remember and reflect on all those brave men and women who gave their lives for others.
Their names and stories live on in their families and communities - As they give their tomorrow so we could live our today.

Emstrey Crematorium has signed up to support Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices huge 36-hour fundraising campaign Quality Moments Matter this November.

Emstrey Crematorium has signed up to become a Matcher on the weekend of November 23rd and 24th by pledging £5000 in match funding.

Quality Moments Matter will see the public and local businesses come together to raise £500,000 and so that children with life-threatening conditions and their families can live their best lives and create precious memories to treasure.

For every £1 the public raise during the 36 hours will be doubled by Matchers like Emstrey Crematorium that have pledged to match the total, meaning one donation, twice the impact.

We met with Harriet Richards from Hope House & Tŷ Gobaith, who said: “We need to raise an additional £500,000 to provide even more quality moments that bring fun and joy to every child, and we are so grateful to Emstrey Crematorium for signing up to be one of our generous Matchers.

“Without that £500,000, we will be able to meet the clinical care needs of the children but would not be able to provide the extra quality activities such as days out and therapeutic play.

“We want all children with life-threatening conditions to have access to adventures and the chance to giggle, play and thrive.

“To never be told that things are impossible, but instead to be surrounded by specialist care staff who help them to overcome challenges and provide opportunities to have the best quality of life possible – with no charge ever made to families.

“Our campaign will rely on an initial injection of £250,000 of funding from our most generous supporters, like Emstrey Crematorium, to create a cash ‘match pot’ that encourages the wider community to donate during our 36-hour campaign because it will be ‘matched’.”
