AutismatHome Sarah

AutismatHome Sarah A holistic play approach tailored for your child. Autism at Home takes a holistic approach to Autism. Autism at Home is based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Autism is a puzzle with many pieces, and each individual has their own unique puzzle. This requires an open approach which considers all aspects of each individual. Autism at Home specialises in play therapy which then incorporates other beneficial therapies. Autism at Home helps families who have children with autism and related disorders to set-up and maintain effective and holistic home-based play programmes, designed specifically for your child. The home-based programme uses specialised play therapy to enhance the social and cognitive development of your child. The play programme is individually tailored for your child and family. This one-to-one play takes place in your home and as the parents, you are the leaders of your programme. Autism at Home, can provide training in the specialised play therapy, help with any challenges and give guidance on running a home programme. With a purpose built centre designed specifically for helping your child and training your team in the play therapy. Help can provided either through training days at the centre or in your own home (dependent on location), and through phone and Skype consultations.

When a child experiences a major setback, it can be a wonderful opportunity to teach resilience and foster a growth mindset. This is how.

I am so proud of a wonderful young lady who is starting secondary school this month. I absolutely love our time together and watching her grow.

She is currently writing a book, here is how it starts. She is so articulate, emotive and detailed in all that she does. It's going to be fabulous.

Sending her and all the other children taking big leaps this September so much love and strength. I believe in you all.

Here is a brilliant piece written by an inspirational young man. I highly recommend reading it.

One of Zaks chosen activities today was puzzles. I love doing this type of activity in sessions as it can promote such calmness, stillness and connection, leading to great conversation as we work alongside each other.

I had oodles of fun with his young chap this afternoon.

Play, play and more play. A great mixture of engineering play, cognitive play, fine-motor play and soothing repetitious play.

Such a great afternoon with this young lady. Her activity choices were perfect for what we both needed today, a mixture of peaceful and mindful dandelion art followed by loads of giggles while playing Bandido and OK play.

That's the beauty of child led play. Sensory needs were met, fun cognitive challenges stimulated the mind, fun was had and connection was made.

I love it when children put in their play session requests ahead of time. This afternoon's requests are watercolour art,...

I love it when children put in their play session requests ahead of time. This afternoon's requests are watercolour art, chess, OK play and Bandido. I think it's going to be a fun one!

Looking for a fun stocking filler that encourages your child to play more board games? Bandido is a firm favourite of the kids I work with at the moment.

Work as a team to stop the Bandido from escaping prison through the tunnels!

It has a really simple concept but takes planning and thinking to play. It's a great little card game promoting team work. Its addictive, exciting and frustrating in the best way!

I am a massive fan of using paper and pen, reading from an actual book and kids playing with toys which don't have batteries.

Technology is amazing in so many instances. But trying to speed up learning and development through technology is not the best idea for your children.

Slow, gradual thinking and processing is so important for the developing mind. Tactile, sensory experiences are vital for the brain while learning, even if it just the touch of pencil, the feel of a book, the smell of the pages. Time for creative thinking is essential while learning.

Deep understanding along with new, innovative ideas come from not just remembering facts but from having the time to play with new knowledge and ideas within the mind.

Researchers Pam Mueller and Daniel M. Oppenheimer found that students remember more via taking notes longhand rather than on a laptop. It has to do with what happens when you're forced to slow down.

Our Story

People with Autism are amazing individuals with incredible minds and enormous amounts of potential. At Autism at Home we are determined to see every individual, accept every individual and believe in every individual. Let’s let potential blossom into reality.

Autism at Home provides training for parents and professionals in specialised play therapy for individuals with Autism and related disorders.

We understand that very child is unique and therefore provide every family with a holistic and individually tailored play programme that is specific to your child and family situation. Autism at Home looks deeper than a label, and looks to find out about, and learn from your child.

Your child will be accepted and respected for who they are today. The aim of the programme is not to change your child, but to help them reach their full potential. Every child is treasured, and their beauty seen and celebrated. All activities and goals are designed around who they are as an individual. Knowing your child’s specific needs, desires, interests and challenges is crucial when designing and implementing your play programme.
