Here’s a simple, delicious recipe you can follow:

🍽️ Belgian Waffles with Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce

🧇 Ingredients (for 4 waffles):

For the waffles:

2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour

2 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp baking powder

¼ tsp salt

2 large eggs

1¾ cups (420 ml) milk

½ cup (115 g) melted butter (plus extra for greasing)

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the topping:

Vanilla or chocolate ice cream (1–2 scoops per waffle)

Icing sugar- light dusting

For the chocolate sauce:

½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream

100 g dark or milk chocolate, chopped

1 tbsp butter

1 tsp sugar (optional, to taste)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Make the Waffle Batter

1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

2. In another bowl, beat eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.

3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and whisk until just combined (a few lumps are fine).

4. Let the batter rest for 5–10 minutes.

2. Cook the Waffles

1. Preheat your waffle maker and lightly grease it.

2. Pour in batter and cook until golden brown and crisp (usually 3–5 minutes per waffle).

3. Keep the waffles warm in a low oven if making several batches.

3. Make the Chocolate Sauce

1. Heat the cream in a small saucepan until just steaming (don’t boil).

2. Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate, butter, and sugar.

3. Stir until smooth and glossy.

4. Assemble and Serve

1. Place a warm waffle on a plate.

2. Add a scoop (or two!) of ice cream on top.

3. A small dusting of icing sugar


4. Drizzle generously with chocolate sauce.

Roman transforms into the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Residents tap their feet and clap along as he croons classics like Love Me Tender and Jailhouse Rock, his deep voice echoing through the lounge. For a few joyful moments, the years seem to melt away, and laughter fills the air. Even those who rarely speak can be seen smiling, mouthing the words to songs that shaped their youth. When the final note fades, Elvis bows low, winks, and says, “Thank ya very much,” leaving behind a room full of brighter spirits and warm memories. With the Cheese, Wine, going around the Families gather ,sharing laughter and stories as staff pour glasses of sweet rose wine and offer trays of brie, gouda, and crackers.

At Maesbrook Care Home – a 45-bed, family-led nursing home in Shrewsbury providing 24-hour care for older people – you’ll become part of a tight-knit team where your efforts are valued, your development is supported, and you genuinely belong.



The Role

As a Day Shift Care Assistant you’ll:

· Work between 07:45 and 20:00in a fixed 2-week rota with alternate weekends (no split shifts).

· Deliver compassionate, person-centred care under the guidance of our Nurses and Senior Carers.

· Support residents with personal care, daily living activities, companionship and dignity.

· Use our modern picture-based electronic care-records system — full training and a dedicated mentor provided.

· Join a friendly, stable team environment where your impact is visible and valued.


What We Offer


· Starting rate: £12.60 per hour + paid training from day one.

· Permanent role – full-time or part-time.

· Day shift only: 07:45 – 20:00 • Fixed 2-week pattern • Alternate weekends • No split shifts.

· Overtime reward scheme for extra hours.

About You

· Kind, dependable, and passionate about supporting older people.

· Previous care home experience helpful but not essential — full training given.

· High attention to detail, team-player mindset and able to commit to the day shift pattern.

· Please note: we are currently unable to offer school-hours only roles or sponsorship.
