Our bodies hold the signs long before we notice the racing thoughts.

Shallow breathing, tight chest, restlessness, or even shutting down completely.

In somatic therapy we talk about the Window of Tolerance. It’s the range where we feel safe, connected and able to respond to life. When we step outside this window, we may spiral into panic and overwhelm, or collapse into numbness and withdrawal.

The good news is: our window can expand. With the right tools, through our body, we can learn to return to safety and presence.

This is why I have created a new workshop:
Somatic Approach to Anxiety

If you are ready to learn practical tools to meet anxiety differently, I invite you to join me and Anthony Fidler.

I often hear from my clients that they find challenging to be still and have rest. That inspired series of short videos on Instagram about key points of reference when practicing Standing Still. Today I’m posting the last reference point from the practice for initial alignment.

I love the poetry of eastern medicine:)

Today’s focus is GV15 Ya Men - Gateway of Muteness and Silent Meditation

The Chinese say that those who truly know remain silent, turning inward through meditation to discover deep, hidden truths. This silence can open unexpected doors. Though it may lead us away from ordinary life, stillness often reveals profound insights.

The acupuncture point Ya Men—literally “mute gate”—reflects this idea. "Ya" means a distorted mouth, symbolizing silence; "Men" means gate. This point connects to the sea of marrow and the Yang Wei Mai, a vessel that channels foundational yang energy. Marrow forms the structure of life at its deepest level, and Ya Men regulates communication from that source.

I'm happy to announce an upcoming workshop in November, in London, which I'll be co-leading with Anthony Fidler.
Together, we’ll explore a range of practices for both self-regulation and co-regulation, designed to help you stay grounded in stressful situations.
We'll delve into the role of the amygdala and discover the key factors that can shift us out of anxiety states.
You’ll also learn why relaxation techniques often fail when used solely as coping strategies during moments of overwhelm — and why these tools are far more effective when integrated into daily life as regular practices.
