I often see many people suffer with pain and injuries that can affect not only their physical being but also their mental well being. What I offer will be an insight into the possible causes of pain and injury and what you can do to help yourself. My hands on skills not only as a soft tissue therapist but a pilates teacher gives me the ability to be able to see and feel restrictions.

In today's digital age, Pilates instructors, especially those with smaller studios, often feel a unique pressure on social media. It can feel overwhelming to constantly create engaging content that showcases our unique approach and expertise. Sometimes, it's the pressure we place on ourselves to deliver what we feel is 'watchable content' and it's easy to be drawn in to comparing ourselves to other studios. How often have you created a video that you then constantly film again or edit to make sure 'its right'? Smaller studios have limited budgets and it's important to remember that our smaller scale brings it's own strength, it's not about the number of followers or the size of the studio; it's about the impact we have on each individual client.

I have been playing tennis for over 10 years, and I absolutely love the game. More recently, in the past year I have been drawn into the Padel world! My Dad, who lives in Spain introduced me to it over 3 years ago, at the time I was undecided and protective over my tennis and pushed it to one side. However, since joining my local padel club, I have grown to love it just as much as tennis. The two have some similarities but totally different techniques, it made relate it to my own Pilates practice. There are many different Pilates teaching styles out there, and I try to embrace the differences and allow myself to love the variations between them, it doesn't mean that I love one more than the other, I just find the joy of movement from each perspective which allows me to continue to evolve and share my passion of Pilates.

I've been teaching Pilates since 2007 and have my own private studio in Sidcup, Kent. I started teaching mat work classes at The Arches leisure centre in Greenwich, and Sidcup Leisure Centre, from there I decided to run my own group classes and I now teach in the local community and from my studio. I love being able to share my passion of Pilates and find it very rewarding being able to help individuals stay mobile and strong, especially those who suffer with chronic pain or are recovering from injuries or surgery. I'm very fortunate to have a Gratz reformer and other pieces of Pilates equipment which enables me to choose the exercises and tailor them to the individual in front of me. Being able to watch my clients progress and become stronger, more mobile and happier in their bodies gives me the most pleasure.

One of the most common statements I hear as a Pilates instructor is 'my previous Pilates instructors taught a very different style of class', or 'I've never done that move before'. As a beginner to Pilates, where do you start? Do you know the different styles of Pilates? Do you know where your instructor trained or their teaching style? It can be very confusing for a newbie and with the amount of Pilates Studios and classes it can be very difficult to know where to start. As an instructor, the style I teach definitely shapes how I plan each class and how I guide each movement. For me, its about meeting my client where they are at the moment and helping them find whats best for their body, no matter the style, my goal is to stay with the intention that Joseph Pilates created the method for and guide with care, authenticity and a love for Pilates and movement.

Behind every Pilates Class there is a lot more than just creating a good workout. As instructors we can spend hours creating a balanced progessive, challenging, fun and enjoyable class. During my early years as an instructor I would turn up with my written plan in hand and literally have to tear it up due to the dynamics of the people in front of me. It's not always easy to find the perfect blend, especially when we're juggling different fitness levels and individual needs. So next time you attend a class and it's not quite what you expected, be kind to your instructor and know they have put thought, care and your safety into their class plan.😀😀

What's changed within 20 years of teaching Pilates? When I first qualified in Pilates, it was just starting to increase in popularity, there were not many classes listed on the local gyms timetables and finding Pilates instructors was more difficult! Pilates equipment studios were very scarce and mat work classes were mainly the only option. Over the last 2 years I cannot believe how fast 'Reformer Pilates' has taken off, but why? For me personally, I decided during Covid to invest in purchasing a reformer, tower, ladder barrel, and other small pieces of equipment, I ordered through a company called Gratz based in America, this took over 16 months to arrive! There are so many more companies that make Pilates equipment, and all are very different machines, but this has made the equipment so much more accessible. I also think people love the dynamic and versatile workouts that the equipment offers compared to mat work, this has been highlighted by many celebrities and influencers through social media, making Pilates 'the go to workout'.

I've been off social media for a few months now, not for any reason other then I started to find that I was posting just for the sake of it. I've been teaching Pilates for nearly 20 years and back then the pressures of instagram, facebook tik tok and all the other social platforms were just not there. With the introduction of AI, life is slightly easier in terms of creating ideas and content for posts for social media, but is it? I feel at times that I'm cheating, like a naughty school girl copying the person's work next to me, for all those Pilates instructors out there, I would love to know your thoughts!

It’s been an absolutely pleasure and joy to have had my beautiful niece stay with me from France for the past month. I have shared my passion of Pilates with her, she has embraced the reformer and the mat and at the age of 17 has many years of Pilates in front of her. I hope to see a future instructor! ❤️

It’s not just a massage, it’s a treatment.

My name is Kathy, and I'm a qualified Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist. I qualified in January 2012 with the prestigious London branch of the UK's leading Sports Massage School, NLSSM (www.nlssm.com), obtaining a BTEC Level 5.

As a result of the high level of training I received in my field it provides me with the skills to deliver treatment plans that are specific to you, ensuring you receive the right massage techniques to help you achieve the reasons why you initially booked in for treatment.

You will receive a personable, professional and results focussed treatment. My aim is for you to leave my clinic with less pain, less muscular tension and home care exercises to keep you moving and help towards maintaining a healthy body.

Sports massage is not just for athletes, I treat many people who suffer with work related posture, stress and anxiety. In addition massage can help if you are suffering with conditions such as arthritis or post surgery back operations, hip and knee replacements.
