Prana - Holistic & Cold Water Wellness Coaching

Prana - Holistic & Cold Water Wellness Coaching An exciting new range of holistic therapies, treatments and wellness events Well, where to start....

Life is interesting and I wear many caps.

People who know me recognise a mum, swimmer, public speaker, fitness instructor, sports and relaxation therapist, open water coach, mental health coach, IT client services manager, secretary, the lady who does the admin, or just the woman down the road who is forever changing things - lesser known are a powerlifter, diy drystone waller, smallholder and some 20+ years ago the very first alpaca owner in Silsden. Me.... I like to think I'm an Adventurer, one who likes a challenge and maybe one who gets bored easily, but I am one who loves life; Lifeloving1. Life not long ago consisted of many adventures from swimming to France, multisport endurance events and a trek to Mt Everest base camp, there is another one pending to Petra in 2024. Sensible I thinks it is time to chill a little, relax and slow things down; my own chimp is still lurking (Petra proves that!) but I am managing him better now and taking back the reigns. Not wanting to waste any of my hard-earned talents, and because I like variety; I decided to combine them all (at least the lesser physical and demanding ones) to welcome you to my wellness workshop "Prana" (which is Sanskrit for Energy). I aim to empower others to make a difference for themselves, to divulge in self-care and to embrace new opportunities and friendships. So my "Wellness Workshop", indeed, also has two caps: an offer of holistic therapy in my home workshop, but also an opportunity to host wellness events to small groups, sports clubs, voluntary, charity and corporate organisations, etc. On the horizon you will see me offer massage for menopause (that time we all dread, as women) which I have redefined as a midlife pause - an opportunity to reflect, reconsider - pause for thought. Massage for oncology, and a whole host of wellbeing events taking in nature at its best. And eventually as a Celebrant - really looking forward to this one - Celebrating throughout our lives is so important, we need to celebrate our lives more. Enough for now, please love your life with my page and if you got this far well thank you for reading I hope we can all enjoy this new adventure of mine.

Note: always exercise caution and take advice from a qualified and experienced open water coach before taking to cold water.

Richard Williams had survived a su***de attempt when a talk with a friend led him to joining a study exploring the impact of cold water on depression.

The facts about cold water immersion
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/172XmzE6Q2/

Cold plunging has exploded in popularity, with everyone from elite athletes to wellness influencers posting their ice bath rituals. But long before it hit social media, cold-water immersion was a Nordic tradition—often paired with saunas—as a way to build resilience, reset the mind, and connect socially. Those plunges weren’t just about recovery; they were about ritual, renewal, and community.

Fast forward to today, and you’ve probably seen the claims: “Go as cold as possible for maximum benefit.” But as is so often the case in exercise and recovery science, what works for men doesn’t always work the same way for women.

When I see women shivering in tubs of icy-cold water at 4°C (39°F) because they’ve been told it will boost metabolism, burn fat, or supercharge recovery, I want to jump in (literally) and explain: you don’t need to go that cold—and in many cases, it’s counterproductive.

Let’s unpack what’s really happening physiologically, how cold exposure can support both health and performance, and why for women, the sweet spot often sits around 15°C (59°F)—not ice-cold extremes.

One of my all time favourites - up at Draughton Heights 2023 (before it was the beautiful campsite that it is today). I've no night swims this year but will be nipping up on Saturday morning for a "non-coached & at your own risk cold water dip"

Today I did my first Tai Chi To You teams session - they loved it and I've promised a video so watch this space ☯️

I am wondering whether anyone would like to join me in this - we could convene weekly to swim, bike or run (or tai chi) in Silsden? All at own risk, for fun and to raise funds for a good cause (swim fees apply @ Draughton).
