‘She sat at the back and they said she was shy,
She led from the front and they hated her pride,
They asked her advice and then questioned her guidance,
They branded her loud, then were shocked by her silence,
When she shared no ambition they said it was sad,
So she told them her dreams and they said she was mad,
They told her they'd listen, then covered their ears,
And gave her a hug while they laughed at her fears,
And she listened to all of it thinking she should,
Be the girl they told her to be best as she could,
But one day she asked what was best for herself,
Instead of trying to please everyone else,
So she walked to the forest and stood with the trees,
She heard the wind whisper and dance with the leaves,
She spoke to the willow, the elm and the pine,
And she told them what she'd been told time after time,
She told them she felt she was never enough,
She was either too little or far far too much,
Too loud or too quiet, too fierce or too weak,

GRIEF SUPPORT CIRCLE - THE BLACKSMITH'S BARN, BREDHURST

It's coming to that time of the year, which can begin to fill some of us with an ache in our heart.

Your heart may feel torn between wanting to join in and needing to pause, both are okay.

All is welcome in the circle. Grief has no timeline, so even if you are experiencing grief from several years ago or more, you can attend

December's dates at the circle are 18:45-19:45 on:
- Tuesday 9th December
- Tuesday 16th December

Currently, the circle has a £5 attendance fee to cover venue costs. We’re working hard to secure funding as a Community Interest Company so that we can make this space free to attend as soon as possible. Refreshments are provided.

The only restriction we have; you must be 18 years old and above.

The silent treatment is not “space,” and it’s definitely not “cooling off.”
It is emotional neglect wrapped in the illusion of control.

When someone repeatedly shuts down, withdraws, or withholds communication to punish or manipulate you, it forces your brain into the same stress pathways triggered by physical pain. That’s why it feels so heavy… so confusing… so destabilizing.

The unspoken message often becomes:
“If you upset me, you no longer matter.”
And over time, this kind of emotional starvation chips away at your confidence, increases anxiety, and creates deep insecurity in the relationship. You begin to question yourself, silence your needs, and even walk on eggshells—just to avoid being abandoned emotionally.

Here’s the truth I want you to hold on to:
Healthy relationships don’t weaponize silence.
Healthy partners communicate clearly. They express hurt without punishing. They set boundaries without disappearing. They choose repair, not retaliation.

Taking space to self-regulate is healthy. We all need it.
But using silence to control, intimidate, or invalidate someone else’s emotional experience is emotional abuse—plain and simple.

If you’ve experienced this, please remember:
You are not “too sensitive.”
You are not imagining it.
You deserve connection, clarity, and emotional safety.
