Gardening should feel good…not leave you stiff and sore the next day.

I’ve been seeing more and more people coming in after long days in the garden - usually after hours of bending forward like this.
That position can increase the load on your lower back by up to 400% every time you bend 😳

So what can you do instead?
✔️ Keep your back more upright✔️ Use a 3-point position (knee, foot, and hand for support)✔️ Let the load go through your legs and arms, not your lower back✔️ Take regular breaks✔️ When lifting or moving things, go slow and crouch rather than lean

Small changes like these can make a huge difference, helping you enjoy your garden without the aftermath.

If gardening has been leaving you sore, it might be time to look at how your body is moving. I can help you get back to doing what you love, comfortably.

What If Pain Wasn’t Your Normal?

Living with pain can slowly become something you just “get used to.” It becomes part of your routine… something you push through, manage, or ignore.

But it doesn’t have to stay that way.

I see so many people who come in feeling stuck with their pain—but with the right support, things start to change. They may still have some pain, but it no longer controls what they can and can’t do. They’re able to get back to the things they enjoy, move more freely, and feel more like themselves again.

Your body is constantly adapting. With the right approach, it can change, move better, and feel better over time.

As an osteopath, I look at the bigger picture not just where it hurts, but why. Using hands-on treatment and a whole-body approach, the aim is to reduce tension, improve movement, and support your body in functioning at its best.

You don’t have to accept pain as your day-to-day.

If you’re ready to feel more comfortable in your body again, feel free to get in touch and book an appointment today.

Recovery doesn’t have to be dramatic to matter.

I often see patients expecting big, instant changes but real progress is usually much quieter than that. It’s in the small wins: moving a little easier, feeling slightly less discomfort, sleeping a bit better.

Even when it feels slow, your body is adapting and responding. Those gradual improvements are signs that things are heading in the right direction.

With the right guidance and a bit of patience, these small steps build into long-lasting results.

Trust the process - your progress is happening!

If you’re struggling with pain or not seeing the progress you’d like, feel free to get in touch or book an appointment.

Ready to rebuild trust in your body after pain?

Pain can make your body feel unreliable or even a bit unsafe. Many of the patients I see start to worry about certain movements or feel unsure about what their body can handle anymore.

A big part of my role is helping patients rebuild that trust.

With clear explanations, gentle treatment, and guided movement, we work through things step by step. As patients start to better understand their pain and experience safe movement again, their confidence in their body begins to grow.

Supporting patients as they regain trust in their body is one of the most important parts of what I do.

If pain is making you feel unsure about your body, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Feel free to get in touch or book an appointment, I’d be happy to help!

It’s World Sleep Day, so let’s talk about something that affects far more than just how tired you feel.
Sleep plays a vital role in how your brain, muscles, hormones and immune system function.

When sleep quality is poor, it can affect the body in many ways, including:
• Reduced concentration, memory and mental performance
• Increased irritability and stress hormones
• Lower pain threshold and increased fatigue
• Higher risk of inflammation, illness and digestive issues
• Increased blood pressure and metabolic changes

In other words, sleep isn’t just rest — it’s when your body carries out essential repair and regulation.
Adults generally need 7–9 hours of good quality sleep each night, but factors such as stress, pain, irregular routines and screen time can all disrupt this.

If pain or tension is affecting your sleep, supporting the body through treatment can make a real difference.

How many hours of sleep do you get each night?

Movement isn’t the enemy.
Fear of movement often is.

Avoiding movement can increase stiffness and make the body more sensitive over time.

Gentle, supported movement helps calm the body and rebuild confidence.

You don’t need to “push through” pain — you need the right guidance.

That’s where I come in.

Ready to move with confidence again? Book your session today or message me to get started.

How Long Have You Been Ignoring That Tightness?

I often see patients once something has properly flared up.

But when we talk it through, the pain didn’t start that week.

It started as:
• A bit of tightness
• Morning stiffness
• A recurring ache
• A feeling that something “wasn’t quite right”

It’s completely understandable to brush those things off — especially when life is busy and the discomfort feels manageable.

But in most cases, pain isn’t the first sign of overload. It’s usually the last.

Before symptoms spike, the body often goes through stages:
• Increasing muscle tension
• Reduced joint mobility
• Subtle compensations elsewhere
• Gradual irritation
• Then pain

When you ignore the early signals, your body adapts as best it can — but over time, those adaptations can catch up with you.

Osteopathy isn’t just for acute injuries or severe pain. I also work with patients who simply feel tight, restricted, or not quite themselves.

Addressing things early can:
✔ Improve movement
✔ Reduce strain on surrounding areas
✔ Help prevent flare-ups
✔ Support better long-term resilience

You don’t have to wait until something “goes” before booking in.

If your body keeps giving you the same message, it’s usually worth listening.

Can Osteopathy Support Bodies of Every Shape and Size?

Absolutely.

In my clinic, I can treat people of all body shapes and sizes safely and effectively.

Osteopathy is hands-on healthcare that focuses on how your body functions. No matter your shape or size, your joints move, your muscles work, your tissues adapt and your nervous system responds to stress and load. That’s what I assess and treat.

There isn’t a specific “type” of body that osteopathy is designed for.

Every body has biomechanics. Every body can experience pain, restriction or overload. And every body can benefit from support to improve movement, comfort and resilience.

Treatment is adapted to the individual in front of me, their goals, their symptoms, and how their body presents on the day.

You don’t need to fit a certain mould to book an appointment.
If you have a body, and it moves, I can assess it.
If it’s uncomfortable or not functioning the way you’d like, I can help support it.

If you have questions about what treatment involves or whether it’s suitable for you, feel free to get in touch.

It’s National Bed Month and therefore the perfect time to talk about something we do every single night: how we sleep.

When I ask patients about their sleep, most people say they sleep well… but their sleeping position often tells a different story.

Here are a few common ones I see:
😴 Arm tucked under the pillowIt might feel comfortable, but it can twist the shoulder and neck for hours.
😴 Sleeping on your frontThis usually forces your neck to turn to one side all night, which can lead to stiffness and irritation.
😴 Too many pillows
If your head is pushed too high (or too low), your neck and upper back can’t stay in a neutral position.
So what tends to work better?

✔️ Back sleepers: A thin to medium pillow helps keep the neck neutral.✔️ Side sleepers: Aim for your head, neck and spine to stay in one straight line.✔️ Helpful tip: A small pillow between your knees can support your hips and lower back.

When your spine stays aligned overnight, your body has the best chance to rest and recover properly.
If you’re waking up stiff, sore, or not feeling rested, your sleep position might be part of the puzzle.

If you’d like help understanding what’s going on with your body, osteopathy can help support you back to comfortable, restorative sleep.

Are Your Mattress or Pillow Contributing to Your Pain?

As an osteopath, I often treat patients for neck, back, and shoulder pain and sometimes the problem isn’t just posture or stress… it’s what you’re sleeping on.

Your body should rest and recover at night. If you wake up feeling stiff, sore, or unrested, your mattress or pillow may be part of the issue.

Signs your mattress may be contributing to pain:

• You wake up with lower back stiffness that improves as the day goes on
• Your mattress is sagging or over 7–10 years old
• You sleep better in a different bed (e.g. hotel stays)
• You feel like you “roll into the middle”

Signs your pillow may be the problem:

• Morning neck pain or headaches
• Shoulder or arm numbness
• Your head tilts up or drops down when lying on your side
• You fold or stack pillows to feel comfortable

Why this matters:

During sleep, your spine should stay in a neutral position. If your mattress is too soft, too firm, or uneven - or your pillow doesn’t support your neck properly, your muscles work all night instead of resting.

Small changes in sleep support can make a big difference in pain levels.

If you’re unsure whether your bed setup could be contributing to your symptoms, feel free to ask at your next appointment, I’m always happy to guide you.

As an osteopath, my hands-on treatment is designed to support your body’s natural ability to adapt and heal. But the effectiveness of treatment doesn’t just depend on what happens in the appointment, it also depends on how supported your body is between visits.

When you’re well-rested, well-fuelled, and managing physical and emotional load, your nervous system can respond more effectively to treatment. This helps changes last longer, supports recovery, and allows your body to get more from each session.

If your system is under constant stress from poor sleep, high workload, inadequate nutrition, or ongoing strain, it can limit how much your body can hold onto the benefits of treatment, even when care is consistent.

That’s why I often talk about rest, movement, nutrition, and support strategies alongside osteopathic treatment. My goal isn’t just short-term relief, but long-term change.

If you’re unsure how to best support your body between appointments, let’s talk about it at your next session, small changes can make a big difference.

As an osteopath, I’m here to support your body’s ability to heal - not just during your appointment, but between visits too. One of the most important things that helps recovery is consistent, balanced nutrition.

When you’re managing pain or recovering from an injury, your body needs energy and nutrients to repair tissues, reduce inflammation, and maintain strength. Regular meals that include protein, healthy fats, carbohydrates, and plenty of fruit and vegetables help provide the building blocks your body uses to heal.

Eating well also supports steady energy levels, which can make it easier to stay active, sleep better, and respond positively to treatment.

If you’re finding your recovery slow, or you’re feeling tired and sore more often, looking at your nutrition alongside your osteopathic care can make a real difference.

If you’d like support with this, feel free to message me or book your next appointment. I’m happy to help you plan a recovery approach that works for you.
