Helpful resource by the Social Workers Toolbox to help children understand and manage their emotions.

"The CBT Emotion Train is a free, child-friendly printable worksheet designed to help children understand and manage their emotions using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques. This engaging, visual resource introduces the foundational CBT concept that thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected, using a relatable and fun train metaphor to make the learning experience both effective and enjoyable for young minds.

This downloadable PDF supports children in identifying their internal experiences and how those experiences influence their actions. It is especially useful for helping children manage anger, anxiety, worry, and emotional outbursts, offering a structured approach to emotional awareness and self-regulation."

Read Become's new report, where care leavers share their voices, experiences and perspectives and redefine what 'success' really means. ✨

"From our work with young people and professionals, it’s clear that leaving care can feel like falling off a cliff. Too many young people don’t get the support they need during this huge life transition into adulthood. Current policies and practices – both local and national – tend to focus on narrow “one size fits all” measures of success. These measures rarely reflect what actually matters to young people, or the realities of their lives. That’s why, four years ago, Become commissioned the Rees Centre to explore some of these issues. We wanted to understand what young people in or leaving care actually consider to be a successful life, and how we might use that to set meaningful targets that hold decision-makers accountable. A design group of 13 care-experienced young people helped shape the research, ensuring their voices, experiences and perspectives were at the heart of everything we did."

Useful resource from the Social Workers Toolbox.

"This free How to Co Regulate with a Child PDF offers a simple one page guide that helps adults support a child, young person or teenager during emotional overwhelm. The visual anchor and wave design on page 1 shows how a calm and steady adult presence can reduce distress when feelings rise and behaviour becomes difficult. This makes the resource helpful for anyone looking for child emotional regulation tools, co regulation strategies or practical behaviour support worksheets.
The guide explains clear and direct steps such as slowing your breathing, lowering demands, using a calm voice, noticing body language and offering comfort the child can accept. It is designed to help children, kids and youth feel safe and understood, which supports their emotional wellbeing and reduces escalation. These steps are useful for parents, carers, teachers, ELSA style practitioners, counsellors, therapists, psychologists and social workers."

Our Story

Xcel 2000 is an independent fostering organisation, founded in 2000, covering Kent, London, Essex and Hertfordshire.

We are the main provider for fostering services for Kent & Medway, a preferred provider to the eastern region local authorities and part of the fostering framework for Hertfordshire, Croydon and Sutton. We are an active member of local and national forums which ensures that we have an influence in guaranteeing and maintaining best practice.

Our small, friendly team of foster carers, social workers and office staff work together to support young people in care. We aim to give them the best possible opportunities and experiences in safe, stable and supportive families. Since the organisation was formed in 2000, our families have fostered over 1000 children. Xcel 2000 have one of the highest number of looked after children living with their foster families long term or permanently - nearly 80%, providing stability and reassurance to both the young people and to our amazing, close knit team of foster parents.

Many factors contribute to our successes, including our excellent training and support, weekly foster parent meet ups, careful matching processes and a close knit team. We pride ourselves on being a small organisation that really cares, where every child really matters and every foster parent is valued and respected. The close working relationship that we have with the families who foster for us is paramount. We know each of our foster parents personally and are aware of how every young person is progressing.
