Maybe I'm opening myself up to some backlash here... Facebook doesn't provide the space for nuance and this is a nuanced issue.... Capitalism, patriarchy, the wealth divide and the darker side of the 'wellbeing' industry - they all come into this.
Fundamentally the issue I want to speak to here is 📣 CARE SERVICES CANT EXIST ON GOOD WILL ALONE!
Whether that's facilitating a yoga class, providing a massage, the mental load within the home, or caring for a loved one.
✨ Giving demands energy and time. If that's not renumerated in some way, shape or form the giver burns out. ✨
Women are still disproportionately affected by this ❗
I would LOVE to shake up the system in many ways to make things fairer and not so reliant on financial exchange. Unfortunately I can't do that single handedly and I still need to live a life within the systems that we're currently living in 🤷🏽♀️ That means charging properly for my work. Without that, it wouldn't be sustainable to continue.
So I continue doing WHAT I CAN - offering occasional discounted, donation based spaces and volunteering my time for local charities, public services and neighbours.
I know so many amazing women offering valuable services and helping to make our world a better place in all the ways they can- let's not lose them because we don't value their time, energy, experience and skills 💜
