📮 We received the most heartwarming post this morning at Craven Nursing Home! 💛

Our 'Adopt a Grandfriend' Scheme is not only bringing joy to our residents, but it’s also touching hearts across the country! This thoughtful card travelled all the way from Suffolk just to tell us how 'BRILLIANT' the initiative is.

It’s fantastic to hear people recognising how the scheme successfully tackles social isolation while helping children boost their confidence and social skills.

Since the successful pilot at Springbank, we've loved rolling it out here at Craven and across all our Spellman Care homes!

To the family who sent the card, thank you for your incredibly kind words and best wishes. ❤️

✈️ Reflecting and Roaming at Craven Nursing Home!

We had a very meaningful Tuesday here at Craven Nursing Home. The morning began with residents gathered in the Mallard Lounge to watch the Remembrance Day TV Service, offering us all a moment of quiet reflection and respect.

Later in the day, a group enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Hawthorne Farm pub for a delicious lunch! The location is perfect for a bit of excitement, and we spent a lovely time spotting planes taking off and landing—a fantastic and memorable afternoon trip!

Jess was nominated for her unwavering kindness, happiness, and positivity. She is consistently organised and thorough, making her a true asset to the home.

Congratulations also to Janet Vickers, our Runner Up! Janet was nominated for her kindness and attentiveness. “She always takes a moment to check on both my mum and me, asking if we need anything. When my mum is feeling a bit down, Janet has a special way of bringing a smile and laughter to her face. Additionally, she is aware of my mum’s food preferences, which makes a big difference.”

Remembrance Weekend: Crafting and Commemorating at Craven Nursing Home 🌹

This weekend was dedicated to honouring the fallen and embracing the spirit of remembrance here at Craven Nursing Home.

On Saturday, our residents spent time creating beautiful, handmade poppy wreaths and thoughtfully decorating the units in preparation for Remembrance Sunday. This activity was a wonderful opportunity for reflection and for our community to contribute personally to the commemorations.

On Sunday, we proudly joined the wider community at the Skipton Remembrance Parade. It was a moving and important occasion where we had the immense privilege of laying a wreath to pay our deepest respects to those who gave their lives in service.

We cherish these opportunities to connect with our community and ensure that the sacrifices made are never forgotten.

We will remember them.

🥳 Fun, Food, and Fireworks at Craven Nursing Home! 🎣

What a wonderful couple of days we've had, full of fun and special memories!

Wednesday evening was a blast! Residents and their loved ones enjoyed a fantastic display of fireworks right here at the home. Everyone stayed cosy with warm hot chocolate and tasty popcorn—a perfect autumn treat! 🎆☕

Yesterday we were out and about! We had the privilege of visiting one of our residents' favourite old haunts: The Falcon Inn in Arncliffe. We all tucked into a delicious fish and chips lunch and were treated to a special tour by our resident, Andy, who proudly showed us the downstairs rooms full of fascinating antiques! We even bobbed over to the farm to see his son at work. Thank you, Andy, for sharing your livelihood with us—you've got so much to be proud of! 🐟🏡

We love making these special trips happen for our residents!

"My mum came to reside at Craven Nursing Home in February 2025, following a stay in hospital and a shortened life expectancy diagnosis. Within a few weeks, she improved dramatically, gaining strength and confidence. She put on weight, joined in the huge variety of activities and enjoyed the pampering sessions, including weekly hair styling - all great for morale. All the staff are dedicated, highly trained, gentle and compassionate. Residents are treated as individuals, their likes and dislikes catered for and special occasions celebrated. Friends and family are made to feel very welcome when visiting. With the glorious weather this summer, my mum spent a lot of time outside in the beautiful gardens. I am so grateful she was able to spend the last 7 months surrounded by people who truly cared. I cannot fault them."

We often say 'the little things are the big things', and yesterday proved it! Our minibus took a trip into Skipton town centre, and what a wonderful afternoon it turned into.

One of our residents had a fantastic, impromptu catch-up with their old neighbour! The sheer delight on both their faces was heartwarming. Of course, we couldn't resist inviting him back to Craven Nursing Home for a proper cuppa! ☕

Following that lovely surprise, we enjoyed a delicious stop at Cake'ole Skipton for a sweet treat, before heading to Woodbank Nurseries - Harden, Bingley in the afternoon.

These are the moments that make our trips so special—opening up the local area and reconnecting residents with their community. ❤️

We'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the kind person who dropped off these stunning knitted poppies overnight! Being part of a tight-knit community of care homes is truly special, and we're thrilled to be a drop-off point for the poppy display at our sister home Ghyll Royd Care Home. The progress on their poppy tree is incredible - check out the poppies we've collected already! Please keep dropping off your knitted poppies and we'll ensure they're featured on Ghyll Royd's poppy tree in time for Remembrance Day.🌺
