Ladies don’t settle for managing your pain, demand more!

If your pain is stopping you from walking with friends, telling you to say 'no' to that weekend away, making you feel crap, or stopping you from getting stuck into some gardening this weekend, enough is enough!

You're not too old
You're not too 'menopausal'
You’re not degenerating 🫣

You deserve more than 'there's nothing more we can do'

That's someone else saying they're at the limit if what they have to offer

It's not the limit of what's still possible for you

A different perspective is what you need and I can offer it 😊

So many women I work with have waited months for their physio appointment...

Excited to finally be getting some answers, help, support.

Expecting to work towards feeling better, so they can get on with their life.

To come away with several sheets of exercises, half of which they can't do, the other half they aren't sure how to do..

With a 'get in touch if you need another appointment'

Pain is not like a light switch, a few stretches and it's gone.

The irony is that most of the women I see have already tried stretches while waiting for the physio!

Pain is not simply stiff joints, tight muscles or a need to be stronger.

Pain is information, we need to dig deeper and understand the clues it leaves us.

It's not too much to ask is it?

To be able to go out with family or friends, walk with them without pain meaning you need to sit down or slow down

But somehow women over 50 get 'it's your age' 'menopause causes a this pain' 'there's nothing more we can do'

It's all to easy to make that assumption.

Yet women I work with get better... and still have menopause symptoms

Ladies you deserve to be seen and heard 🧡

Still mixing it up a little with a morning clinic doing the more traditional physio work... in the least traditional way!!

I missed being in-person, the energy you get from just being in someone else's presence.

I am so inspired to be better, to deepen my understanding, to make better connections. This helps me.

It helps me navigate the online space, which can be overwhelming and a bit shouty!!

I wonder how many lovely people I see today will be surprised when they don't get stretches for their pain..? 🤔😊

You can do quite a lot… until suddenly you can’t.

One day it’s fine.
The next it’s not.

And it doesn’t always make sense.

Most of the women I speak to aren’t doing nothing.

They’re doing a lot.

They’ve tried the exercises.
They’ve rested when it’s been bad.
They’ve followed the advice they’ve been given.

And still… they find themselves going round in circles.

So it’s easy to assume:

‘Maybe I need to do more.’
‘Maybe I just need to be more consistent.’
‘Maybe this is just my age.’

But what if that’s not the issue?

Most of what you’ve been told focuses on the body, tight muscles, arthritic joints or needing to get stronger.

And while these may be a part of the picture, it doesn’t explain why pain comes and goes, or why you can feel better for a while then it comes back.

Why you can sometimes do something with no problem…
and other times the exact same thing sets it off.

That’s what so many women find so frustrating.

The thing is pain isn’t a sign of damage to your muscles or joints.

It’s a protective response created by your nervous system.

It’s influenced by what’s happening in your body, yes…
but also by things like:

how confident you feel in your body

what you think, feel or believe about your pain or your body

what’s happening in your life

Which means it’s not as simple as just doing more exercises
or finding the ‘right’ stretch.

It’s about understanding what’s actually driving the nervous system, what it’s protecting you from.

Because when you start to understand this, things really begin to change.

You stop worrying if you will make things worse.

You stop feeling like you’re getting it wrong, not doing enough.

And you can start to build back some confidence in what you can do.

Not by doing more.

But by doing things differently.

Women in pain are being told this on a daily basis

It's making us feel invisible

It's shutting the door on any other discussion options for help & support

Yes we do get aches & pains with menopause - that we CAN help with

But just because it could be related to menopause doesn’t mean it is!

Hormonal changes can make underlying pain problem feel worse and impact how we feel and move

But that doesn’t mean it's the cause of our pain and we shouldn't assume it is

I am here to Raise The Bar of what we should expect for all women over 50 in pain

I hear this a lot.

Women doing their best to manage pain.

Resting when they have pain.
Trying again when it settles.
Avoiding things that seem to set it off.

And over time, doing a bit less just feels like the sensible option.

But that cycle is exhausting.

And it doesn’t always make sense.

Especially when pain comes and goes,
moves around,
or comes on when nothing obvious has changed.

That’s why we need to look at pain differently.

It's not just as a body problem.

Pain isn't just a body problem

So many women are stuck in the cycle of rest, try again, avoid, accept being able to do less.

Doing their best, following advice, doing the exercises but still managing episodes of pain, that don't always make sense.

Being labelled with:
'menopausal'
'arthritic'
'age-related'

But none of these explain why pain is up and down, inconsistent or why one joint hurts and another doesn't.

Why their friends, and family also women of the same age don't have the same aches and pains.

Pain is how our nervous system protects us from the risk of more damage, good when you sprain and ankle, not so helpful when you just want to go for a walk.

Pain is not always because we have damaged a structure in our body.
Pain can be felt when we are stressed, when we worry or think about our pain, when we don't really understand what's happening in our body.

To have less pain, to be able to get back to doing some of the things we love, to break this cycle, we need to move away from focusing just on the body.

We need to learn what the nervous system is protecting us from
