If you're worried your liver might be damaged by alcohol you can have a fibroscan. This is a scan, similar to an ultrasound, that uses a ‘wand’, placed on the outside of your body to scan your liver.

It is completely painless and is able to tell how stiff your liver is (which can indicate if scarring is there) and how much fat is there (which can be an indicator of fatty liver disease).

If you’re concerned about your drinking, and you live in Slough, come and have a chat and we can take it from there.

Co***ne, methamphetamine, M**A and other stimulants can cause significant harm to your heart, and in worst case scenarios, even death. This heart month, we remind you to start low and go slow whenever you are using.

If you experience any of the following, stop using immediately:

Chest pain, tightness or pressure
Pain spreading to arm, jaw, neck or back
Severe shortness of breath
Heart racing uncontrollably (especially >120–130 bpm at rest)
Irregular or “skipping” heartbeat
Feeling faint or actually passing out
Blue lips or fingertips
Seizure
Unresponsiveness

Call 999 and tell them exactly what has been taken. Paramedics will not judge or report drug use to the police.

Abusive partnerships and substance use often go hand in hand. But love should not hurt.

Love is about respect and care for the other person. It's mutual and it's kind.

We are part of the Safer Slough Partnership, seeking to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and fear of crime in Slough. No one should live in fear of what their partner might do, or be made to feel bad by their partner.

If you’re in an unhealthy relationship, help is available.

People who use drugs or are in recovery face real, preventable risks during cancer treatment - mostly because of stigma, fear, and fragmented care.

They may be reluctant to seek care
Symptoms may be easier to miss
They may be starting treatment from a less healthy base, underweight or malnourished)
They may be unwilling to be honest about drug taking due to perceived stigma
They may not have access to integrated care for substance use and cancer
They may struggle to keep on top of appointments for treatment
They may be fearful of taking pain relief, especially if in recovery, or at risk of overdoseTalking about it openly saves lives.

💛This World Cancer Day, we stand by those struggling with the impact of cancer while also overcoming substance use.

If that’s you - come and talk to us. Go to the link in our bio.

As a substance use support service, we focus as much on harm reduction as we do on recovery. That’s why we advise that you avoid these five practices if you’re using drugs:
1. Mixing substances
2. Sharing bank notes when snorting
3. Drinking or using alone
4. Holding smoke in your lungs for too long
5. Double dosing.

We’re here for anyone in Slough who wants more information or support about substance use. Drop in to see us at Slough Community Hub (CHUB) open from 7am to 8pm, Monday to Friday. 🫶🏼
