On International Women’s Day, we recognise the women who bring gentleness, understanding, and steady compassion to families experiencing loss.

Their empathy makes a profound difference. Their presence brings warmth, dignity, and humanity to every family they meet.

To all the women who support grieving families with kindness and care — thank you.

On World Book Day, we’re reminded of the quiet strength that stories can offer, especially to children navigating the emotions that follow loss.

Books have a unique ability to open gentle conversations, provide reassurance, and help young minds understand feelings they may struggle to express. As funeral directors, we see first-hand how important it is for families to have compassionate tools that support children through grief, helping them feel understood and less alone.

We are proud to recognise the work of Clare Shaw, whose books are widely used by funeral directors, charities, and schools across the UK to help children and young people cope with bereavement.

“Therapeutic Stories can be used to help children process difficult emotions. They can encourage and enable children to have conversations that may otherwise overwhelm them. Identifying and understanding their emotions can help a child make sense of a situation and the possible effect it may have on them – now and as they get older. It can teach them emotional skills that will help should they find themselves in a similar situation in the future.”

Titles like ‘A Mind Full of Grief’ and ‘Love Will Never Die’ offer tender thoughtful support for young minds.

This month we are exploring how funeral directors provide grief support to families.

In the early days after someone dies, grief can make even simple tasks feel heavy. Funeral directors walk alongside families with compassion, offering reassurance, space to breathe, and help with the arrangements when it’s hard to think clearly.

Our team are available to offer guidance 24/7. Please get in touch if you are looking for guidance and a helping hand.

Thank you to Cheryl and all the team, who received this lovely feedback from a family:

"Honestly at the worst time in your life and never having to plan a funeral before, I can only thank Cheryl at Castle Bromwich and the rest of the team at Yardley from the bottom of my heart. From planning, to keeping me updated, offering guidance and support. You have to be a really special person to do this job and they were all absolutely amazing. I never felt like I was alone, or any question was silly."

Today is Random Act of Kindness Day, the perfect day to take a moment to brighten someone’s day with a small act of kindness.

It could be as simple as holding the door open, paying for someone’s coffee, or sending an unexpected message or flowers to a friend. Little gestures can make a world of difference to those who need it.

What is the nicest random act of kindness someone has done for you?

Valentine’s Day is a reminder of the power of love — the kind we share, the kind we cherish, and the kind that stays with us always.

Today, many celebrate with cards and flowers, but it’s also a moment to reflect and remember those who are no longer with us. Love doesn’t end; it lives on in the stories we tell, the traditions we keep, and the moments that shape our lives.

If you’re remembering someone special today, we hope you feel surrounded by comfort, connection, and the enduring warmth of their love.

Wishing our community a peaceful and heartfelt Valentine’s Day.
