👣 THINK GAIT, NOT JUST FEET

If you’re a runner, footballer or rugby player, your body repeats the same movement thousands of times.

Small inefficiencies in your gait can quickly turn into big problems – shin splints, stress fractures, Achilles issues and knee pain.

At Gait and Rehab, we use advanced gait analysis and Footscan pressure mapping to look at:

• Where your feet take the most load

• How long each part of your foot stays on the ground

• Differences between your left and right side

• How efficiently you push off with each step

This data helps us understand why you’re in pain – and what needs to change. From custom 3D-printed orthotics to targeted rehab and footwear advice, we create a plan that supports both recovery and performance.

Whether you’re chasing a PB, returning from injury, or just want to run without pain, MSK podiatry can give you a stronger, more stable foundation.

The first Knowle Healthcare Networking meeting was a great success! Our aim was to get to know other local practitioners so that we can cross-refer patients and they can achieve better outcomes.

Thanks to Haelan Chiropractic, Jenny Black Osteopathy, Halo Health & Heath Lodge Clinic, plus James and Helen, our local podiatric surgeons for attending.

Looking forward to the next meet-up in January

🦶 WHAT IS A 3D FOOTSCAN – AND WHY DOES IT MATTER IF YOU HAVE DIABETES?

Our Footscanner is a high‑tech pressure plate that captures hundreds of frames per second as you stand and walk. That means we can see:
• Where pressure is building under your feet

• How your foot structure and gait might be increasing your risk

• Subtle changes you may not feel – especially if you have reduced sensation
For people living with diabetes, this level of detail is crucial. Reduced blood flow and nerve damage can mean small problems go unnoticed until they become serious.

By using 3D Footscan as part of your diabetic foot care, we can spot risks early, recommend custom orthotics if needed, and build a personalised plan to keep you moving safely.
Want to understand what your feet are really doing?

🏉⚽🏃♂️ Your performance starts from the ground up.

Every sprint, tackle and jump loads your feet and lower limbs with forces up to 2–3x your body weight. If that load isn’t shared evenly, you don’t just get “sore feet” – you get ankle sprains, shin splints, knee pain and recurring niggles that won’t go away.

At Gait and Rehab in Knowle, we specialise in Musculoskeletal (MSK) Podiatry – looking at how your hips, knees, ankles and feet work together when you move.

Using advanced gait analysis and Footscan pressure mapping, we can spot the subtle imbalances that lead to:

• Heel pain and plantar fasciitis

• Achilles tendinopathy

• Forefoot pain and metatarsalgia

• Knee and hip overload from poor alignment
By correcting the foundations, we help you move more efficiently, reduce injury risk and feel more confident in your sport.

📍 Based in Knowle, supporting local rugby, football, running and gym-goers across Dorridge, Solihull and Balsall Common.

Today is National Diabetes Awareness Day, chosen to mark the birthday of Frederick Banting, who co-discovered the life-saving hormone insulin in 1922.

For people with diabetes, foot complications are one of the most serious concerns. High blood sugar levels can lead to nerve damage (neuropathy) and poor circulation, making it harder to feel injuries and heal wounds. In fact, diabetic foot problems are the leading cause of non-traumatic lower limb amputations.

At Gait and Rehab, we offer an in-depth assessment for people with diabetes. We'll
✅check your pulses using a Doppler
✅ assess the sensation in your feet
✅ use our Footscanner to look for biomechanical issues and pressure points

Book your assessment today, protect your feet for the future

Usamah had a busy weekend - he was speaking at the West Midlands Foot Health Conference.

His talk was entitled ‘Mind the Tone - a podiatric perspective on diverse skin presentation’, which is an area he specialises in.

Basically, most text books show pictures of skin conditions on pale skins, whereas even common conditions, such as athletes foot, can look very different on darker skin tones.

This can have serious ramifications if skin cancers are missed if the clinician isn’t aware of how they can appear on darker skin.

He must have done a good job as he’s already been invited back next year!
