Subaru Legacy STi – Underbody Revival & Long-Term Protection
This rare Japanese classic came in for a full underbody clean and protection treatment.
The owner had previously popped by, but with the car being lowered and fully panelled underneath, we couldn’t accurately assess its condition. Once stripped down, it became clear this Legacy had been painted black underneath at some point in its life.
As soon as we began dry ice cleaning, it was evident that beneath the cosmetic black coating lay hidden corrosion — a perfect example of how black underseal or paint may look tidy, but can easily mask serious issues developing beneath.
We removed all of the old black coating using further dry ice cleaning to reveal the true condition. Fortunately, only minor surface corrosion was present, which we treated carefully using mechanical cleaning and a zinc converter before final preparation.
Once prepped, we applied IGL Aegis — a cutting-edge, semi-permanent anti-corrosion coating — across the underbody, subframes, and all accessible components for long-term protection.
To complete the job, all cavities and chassis rails were treated internally with Bilt Hamber cavity protection, ensuring protection both inside and out.
While the car was with us, we also completed a full engine bay dry ice clean, restoring plastics and trim with IGL Trim for a crisp, OEM finish.
A thorough, transformative job to refresh and protect this rare Subaru Legacy STi for many years to come.
