Christmas anxiety? - 3 top tips for a calm festive time.
More invitations from people, work dos, family visits, social events, organising, Christmas shopping, potentially travelling or hosting guests.
This can seem overwhelming and anxiety can ruin the entire Christmas period.
Try these tips to beat Christmas anxiety
Tip 1 - Allocate down time for yourself, amongst the chaos we can feel like we a re rushing around and fulfilling obligations.
If this sounds like you then make sure you have positive, self nurturing things planned each week, no matter how big or long these things are.
Tip 2 - Take action - Avoidance is so easy to do when we are feeling anxious, but this leads to more overwhelm, freezing and guilt.
It is about having a plan and STARTING, whether is is making that Christmas list or opening mail.
Break all of your tasks into smaller chunks
Make them manageable with achievable things and plan when you are going to do them. Give yourself some easy wins too.
You have got this!
Tip 3 - Breathe! - Make sure your out breath is longer than your in breath. Breathe in and out fully
Breathe in slowly and fully through your nose and breathe out completely, even more slowly, and through pursed lips.
Do 10 of these breaths in a row and this will calm your Sympathetic nervous system, the part that is responsible for the Fight, Flight, Freeze response.
