Most doctors get this backwards; they start with job titles instead of fit.
And that is exactly why so many stay stuck for months.
I see this all the time.
A doctor knows they want something beyond clinical work, so they do what feels sensible. They open job boards, save LinkedIn posts, and read lists of "best non clinical roles for doctors" hoping that more options will somehow make the answer obvious.
At first, that feels productive.
Like progress.
Like they are finally doing something.
But usually, it does the opposite.
It creates more options, more noise, and more second guessing. Instead of making the next step clearer, it makes every path look vaguely possible.
And that is where people get trapped.
Because the real problem is not a lack of options.
It is the wrong starting point.
In my opinion, you should not start by asking what sounds impressive, what pays well, or what someone else moved into. You should start by asking what kind of work actually fits you.
What kind of work do you enjoy?
What kind of work drains you?
What do you already know you do not want more of?
That is the filter.
And filters create clarity much faster than more options do.
For example, you might realise you do not want roles that feel too corporate, roles with little remote flexibility, or roles that are full of meetings, politics, and admin.
Now the search gets lighter.
Cleaner.
More useful.
You do not need the full answer yet. You just need to stop treating every role like it could be yours, because that is when the right path starts becoming easier to see.
