At Pure Potential Scotland, our mission is to transform lives through compassionate, creative, and trauma-informed approaches to suicide prevention, mental wellbeing, and personal healing. Inclusivity & Welcome Statement
We are committed to providing therapeutic, movement and training spaces that are safe, inclusive, and affirming for all. Guided by the BACP Ethical Framework and the UK Equality Act, we celebrate diversity across all identities—including race, neurodivergence, disability, body size, gender identity, and sexual orientation. You are welcome here exactly as you are. We offer tailored consultancy, training, therapy, and wellbeing services that empower individuals and organisations to better understand and respond to suicide and mental health challenges. Through innovative practices including Movement Medicine, heart-focussed therapy, and embodied workshops, we help people reconnect with their inner strength, resilience, and potential. Driven by authenticity, powered by experience, and inspired by the healing force of creativity and movement, Pure Potential Scotland stands for hope, healing, and the belief that every life holds value. Led by Carolyn E. Wood—who brings over two decades of professional expertise in suicide prevention and wellbeing and the power of her own lived experience—we are grounded in real understanding and guided by deep empathy. Carolyn leads with her heart and with over 20 years of experience working in crisis, mental health, and suicide prevention. Carolyn uses her lived experience of childhood trauma, addiction, and suicidality to empower her to be ‘a companion through the darkness to joy.’

Carolyn co-developed a holistic crisis intervention and self-harm service in Glasgow in 2004. Carolyn is an Integrative Therapist with training in attachment and trauma, a Trainer, Clinical Supervisor, and Consultant. Carolyn was the Consultant for GAMH in the development of Wave After Wave in 2022, a training co-produced by those with lived experience to increase understanding of suicide bereavement and how to respond to people who have been touched by suicide. Qualified in Physical Theatre Practice and Movement Medicine, and passionate about dance, Carolyn is a Movement Medicine Teacher & Facilitator. Carolyn brings movement, the body, heart connection and nature into her work supporting others to connect to their powerful resources for transformation. Most important to Carolyn is our reconnection to hope and joy, our true selves, and our innate love.

* Embodied Resilience for Helping Professionals & Caregivers
- A Practical Path to Body Wisdom, Self-Compassion & Sustainable Service

Resilience is not about ‘stiff upper lip’ or ‘toughing it out’. It is the ability to meet life’s challenges without losing your connection to yourself. The Embodied Resilience Circle is a peer support and learning community for helping professionals & caregivers. It is a supportive, facilitated space rooted in Movement Medicine® and embodied awareness. With 25 years in mental health, addiction and suicide prevention—and 17 years in embodied practice—Carolyn has seen how caring work can turn into burnout and compassion fatigue. Embodied Resilience is:

- listening to the body’s wisdom
- fine-tuning nervous-system awareness
- honouring our edges and limits
- embodying self-compassion

Through this practice, we prevent burnout, build sustainable resilience, and keep caring without losing ourselves.

* Integrative Therapy
Uniquely integrates various forms of therapy such as Gestalt, Person-centred, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Solution Focused Therapy. If you feel stuck, this helps you to learn how to manage particular issues better and deal with the underlying cause to support long term change.

* Movement Medicine
Movement Medicine is a creative, self expressive, embodied meditation practice which connects your body, heart, mind and spirit. Movement Medicine helps us to reconnect and start to listen to our body and heart again, we do this through engaging the body in movement, to bring our awareness back inside our bodies and trust the movement that comes. Through this process of embodiment we can engage all of our power through the integrated intelligence of the body, heart, and mind. Movement Medicine is a process of learning to trust yourself and your body again, to trust that there is a dancer, a mover, a creator inside you that knows what to do, to express how you feel, make sense of your experiences, to express the true essence of who you are. Movement Medicine supports you to embody all of who you are and encourages you to be all you can be. This is a journey of active acceptance of those ‘hidden’ parts of ourselves, to acknowledge and embrace the gifts that are inside, and bring these gifts into the world, and at the same time this practice teaches us to not take ourselves so seriously.

* ASIST
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is for everyone 16 or older—regardless of prior experience—who wants to be able to provide suicide first aid. Shown by major studies to significantly reduce suicidality, the ASIST model teaches effective intervention skills while helping to build suicide prevention networks in the community.

*safeTALK
safeTALK is a half-day alertness training that prepares anyone over the age of 15, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources, such as caregivers trained in ASIST.

* Bespoke Training/Workshops
I can create and facilitate a tailored workshop to meet your service or networks' needs, please contact me directly to discuss your requirements.

* Research & Consultancy - With my expertise and knowledge in suicide prevention and intervention I understand the importance of joined up working between all support structures whether they are formal or informal. I can facilitate the development of new ventures or harness the potential of existing structures and support their growth to success. Therapy with Carolyn E. Wood ~ Client testimony:
"I found Carolyn's creative approach to therapy very effective. I have worked with many therapists and facilitators over the years and found Carolyn's creative, active way of working gentle yet profound. I often refer back to the session we had and have found myself continue making connections to personal blocks I encountered in the process. I am still unravelling solutions from the experience I had working with Carolyn. I think the fact Carolyn involves her client pro actively in the process makes it much more memorable and useful to refer back to in the future."

Look what dropped on my doormat this morning...the recently published ‘Sent Away’, an anthology of Boarding School Poems.

I am happy to have one of my poems featured in it, my own reflection of being sent away age 8. We were a military family and I was the last of three siblings to go.

Taking a child away from a family unit can be deeply traumatic with broken attachment, and a young child often blames themselves for being sent away.

Children are resilient and can overcome many things but often the pain and trauma is hidden deep inside (The Body Keeps the Score, Bessel van der Kolk), ignored and unseen, but starts to seep out later. Those individuals who come out as high achievers can sometimes have major challenges with emotional issues/intelligence, shown through relationship challenges and breakdowns.

Boarding schools have changed in some way, but it does not take away from the fundamental issue: a child is being put in a care system instead of a family, to be brought up by strangers in an institution.

Would you like to release the dancer inside you?

Want to unwind stress from your body and reconnect with your joy inside?

This is an introduction to Movement Medicine® and embodiment. Through music, movement, and dance, we will actively engage with the elements: Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Ether.

* Release stagnant movement

* Reclaim your power

* Return home in your body

* Connect to joy!

The spaces I offer are welcoming and inclusive. It is a space where we meet on the dance floor as we are.

YOU ARE WELCOME EXACTLY AS YOU ARE.

‘Carolyn nurtures a safe space. I often don’t feel safe in my body so feeling the safety has allowed me to give myself permission to express movement and my breath with courage. I am opening to myself to life. Thank you.’
~ Workshop Participant

‘I feel more energised, more alert, and I enjoyed the music and dancing, a way of connecting to yourself and loosening up your inhibitions.’

Tomorrow, Thursday 5th February, at 6:30pm I’m offering a free online Introduction to Movement Medicine® with Seen & Heard who support the emotional wellbeing of people who attended boarding schools (and their families).

A child of a military family, I was sent to boarding school age 8, and was a full-time boarder until I was 16. I carried a confusing mix of shame, silence, privilege, abandonment, and pain for a long time. Over the years, embodiment has been one of the pathways that helped me return to myself - because the body holds what words often can’t express.

Last year I offered my first Movement Medicine® introduction for ex-boarders in London. It was well received—and healing for me too. A real full-circle moment.

I’m honoured to bring Movement Medicine® to this community, and share how this practice of embodiment can truly help heal old wounds no matter what age you are. If you’re part of that community and curious, you're warmly welcome. 🙂

Our Story

I offer creative approaches to facilitating positive change with individuals, communities, and within services. I have expertise in using crisis as a guide, understanding suicidal thinking, life transitions, relationship issues, s*xual identity, LGBTQ+, s*xual abuse, eating disorders, self harm and childhood separation through growing up in state care/private boarding school. I have worked on the frontline of mental health and addiction services for 17 years, working with people who have experienced multiple traumas and people in crisis. I worked at management level, setting up and running a crisis intervention service for people at risk of su***de and/or self harm.

I love to dance and express myself through movement on my own and with others. I have been practising Movement Medicine for over 10 years and am now a Movement Medicine Teacher and Facilitator in Training. I am passionate about creative expression and storytelling and have an Advanced Diploma in Physical Theatre Practice.

My passion for the work that I do is fuelled by my own challenges with my mental, emotional and spiritual health which created suicidal despair when I was younger.

In my adolescent years I was in a constant battle with myself and others as I tried to make sense of my childhood experiences. This manifested through destructive relationships with drugs, alcohol, food and s*x.
