Hello everyone,

I am a qualified Yoga instructor living in South Ockendon.
As we are all aware, it is International Yoga day on the 21st June 2024 (Summer solstice)

I am excited to announce 7-Yoga online sessions for opening Chakras to celebrate this day!🌎✨
Join the Yoga challenge & complete a 40-minute session of yoga every day including pranayama and asanas for the week leading up to Yoga Day from the comforts of your home and feel the difference!

Why join?

Chakras are energy centres situated along the spine in the body that are responsible for maintaining physical, emotional and spiritual balance. The free flow of energy is crucial through these chakras for our well being.
When the flow is restricted by any blockages in any of the chakras, it leads to physical or emotional imbalance, illnesses with symptoms like headaches, anxiety, depression, digestive issues and so on.
Yoga can help in opening blocked chakras. Asanas, meditation and pranayama all help in restoring the energy flow and healing.
As we approach the International Yoga Day, I would like to offer 7 days of Yoga to open and balance these chakras.

Let’s unite and make this International Yoga Day truly special. Ready to take on the challenge? Roll out your mats and let’s get started!
Please DM/email to register, only 15 spaces available, classes will be online. Beginners are welcome.

Namaste 🙏💕

Increase your strength with the use of extra weights in your regular yoga postures!. Adding weights to your yoga practice challenges the strength of the muscles, tendons and ligaments that stabilise all our joints.
Using weights pushes our body to engage more muscles than we do in a normal yoga practice, where we use our body weight only, and therefore creating a stronger body and hence preventing injuries, building muscles and energizing the whole body!

Join me this Tuesday for a session of yoga with weights @ Village Hall, South Ockendon.

YOGA IN OCKENDON
Importance of Pranayama:
There is a deep connection between our breath, body and mind. The effects of controlled mindful yogic breathing (pranayama) are powerful and worth exploring. The Sanskrit word Pranayama translates to ' regulation of life force energy'. The regular practice of pranayama has immense physical, emotional and mental health benefits. Pranayama involves deep breathing and techniques that aim to control inhalations and exhalations, and sometimes breath retention.
Pranayama helps lower hypertension, stress & anxiety. It helps improve our digestive system, immune system
respiratory system and quality of sleep. Practice with me every Tuesday evening Ockendon Village Hall.

Does Yoga tone your body?

Everyone is aware of the benefits of yoga for relieving stress and anxiety. Meditation is supposed to have amazing results to calm your mind.
But Yoga is equally good for toning and strengthening your muscles.

Yoga practice involves many poses which require you to use different muscles for different poses. When you hold the poses which require strength tones your muscle, making them more defined and stronger.
Each pose works on a differnt muscle group and tones differnt parts. So full body Yoga is an amazing tool to tone your whole body.

And as I always say...do it with more awareness to get the best results!!

I hope to see you all for tomorrow's session for a full body yoga workout.

Namaste xx

YOGA FOR SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA

Solar plexus chakra is of the 7 chakras in your body. Also known as the Manipur chakra in Sanskrit which means a shining gem. It is located between your navel and your ribcage.
It represents your ability to be confident and in control of your life. It is linked to your will power, self worth, self esteem and commitment
On a physical level it influences your gall bladder, stomach, spleen, pancreas and liver.
You have a balanced Solar plexus chakra if you are confident, have clarity of judgement, have high self esteem, you are independent etc.
You have a blocked charka if you are unable to make decisions, low self esteem, lack of confidence and shame, have anger or control issues, etc

There are yoga poses that help balance this chakra and they are the ones that strengthen the abdominal area and also promote flexibility in the middle area of your spine.
The asanas where we compress and decompress the abdominal area...for eg plank, cobra, bow, locust, camel and many more.

To practice these and many more asanas with us, 🧘‍♀️🧘message here or dm to join us this Tuesday!!

YOGA FOR UPPER BODY

The upper body often harbors tightness caused due to poor posture while being at the desk all day, or using cell phones or just sitting watching tv.
There are many yoga poses that help you stretch and open these muscles in the upper body to release the tension. You need upper body strength to hold many yoga poses like plank, hand stand, even downward dog. You need strong hands and wrists to hold the poses. When holding such poses, you are also working on your core , and hence the whole body gets stronger as everything is connected! We all need to lift, carry and move things around, it is good to feel confident to do the everyday stuff!
Stretch to create space and strengthen your upper body by practicing ..Cow pose, cobra, puppy pose, thread the needle, fish pose, locust, plank, reverse plank, downward dog, side plank etc.

YOGA FOR TIGHT HIPS AND LOWER BACK PAIN

Just having tight hips can lead to your entire posture being thrown off! The main reasons for low back pain and tight hips are poor posture, herniated discs, pinched nerves (sciatica nerve), sitting for longer times, weak core strength, etc
Tight hips also cause pain that radiates to lower back pain. It is important hence to loosen and stretch those muscles! Yoga increases flexibility all throughout the body. The muscles, tendons, ligaments become flexible and stretchier and more mobile relieving discomfort!

There are many asanas that help like butterfly, downward dog, pegion pose, cat and cow, reclined twist, childs pose, bridge pose and many more.
Join us every Tuesday as we focus on different topics each week! Follow us for regular updates

YOGA FOR GOOD POSTURE:

Bad posture can lead to improper compression and constriction along your spine which in turn can lead to poor circulation, fatigue, poor digestion, teeth grinding and impact your mood. Poor posture can cause misalignment of your spine and knees, it can compromise your ability to breathe well. It contributes to circulation problems, high blood pressure and varicose veins. It can misalign the pelvis and cause problems with digestion and elimination. It puts your joints and muscles under additional strain, can cause tight neck muscles resulting in headaches, shoulder pain and back pain. Poor posture is also associated with low self confidence and lack of power. Rounded lower back sitting or slumped sitting can cause tightening & shortening of pelvic floor muscles, which in turn can affect the sexual function in men and women in many ways.
An effective way to improve your posture is through regular exercise and yoga asanas. There are many asanas which help you achieve a better aligned spine and even reverse bad posture overtime! Join us to practice many such asanas together 🧘‍♀️🧘

YOGA AND DIGESTION

According to Harvard medical school our gastrointestinal tract is sensitive to our emotions. The term gut-brain-connection means that feeling sad, angry, low or anxious can actually trigger a response in the gut. It is a communication system made of nerves and biochemical signals that connect the digestive system with the brain. Hence stress reduction can also help with digestion. Yoga has therapeutic effects on stress, anxiety and depression.
Several asanas help the digestive system by massaging the internal organs in different ways, applying pressure from different sides, stretching the abdomen. In many asanas there is alteration of stretching and contracting the muscles which helps in improving the blood flow and oxygen. The upside down postures help ease constipation, improve bowel movement and reduce gas build up.
Popular poses that help are seated twist, side bend, supine twist, cobra pose, bow pose, cat and cow, knees to chest , manduk asana (frog pose) and many more.
