Lets talk about Physiotherapists vs. Sports massage therapist.
✨ Understanding the difference in bodywork professionals ✨
I often get asked about the difference between a Physiotherapist and a Sports Massage Therapist — and it’s such an important conversation to have.
While both work with the body, they each have very different roles.
A physiotherapist is medically trained to assess, diagnose and treat injuries or conditions. They often work with rehabilitation, post-surgery recovery, and more complex or clinical issues.
A sports massage therapist focuses on the soft tissues — helping to relieve tension, improve mobility, support recovery, and enhance overall wellbeing through hands-on treatment.
Both are incredibly valuable… but in very different ways.
💭 The most important thing to remember is this:
Choosing the right professional for your needs really matters.
If you are dealing with pain, injury, or anything that feels beyond general muscular tension, it’s always best to seek advice from a qualified medical professional.
And when it comes to massage and wellness treatments, make sure you are choosing someone who is properly trained, insured, and working within their scope of practice.
Your body deserves safe, knowledgeable, and thoughtful care 🤍
As therapists, it’s our responsibility to stay within our training, continue learning, and always put your wellbeing first.
As clients, it’s okay to ask questions, understand who you’re seeing, and feel confident in your choice.
✨ The right care, at the right time, makes all the difference ✨
I write this because I see a lot of sports therapist stepping out of their professional career role and offering more than. They should to their clients.
I regularly remi d my clients that I have experience within the physio world but am not a licensed Physiotherapists therefore cannot diagnose or prescribe exercise however I can offer them conversations to bring up at their next apt.
I feel confident doing this as I have years of education and experience. Please remeber that most Massage therapy courses in the UK are short courses with little to no clinical practice before becoming certified AND in Somerset and other counties you dont have to be a certified massage therapist to open a business and take clients on. 🙄
