It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a devoted father to the late Mark and Gareth and his only daughter Bella, a loving partner to Linda, step father to Thomas and Christopher, adored grandad, great grandad, son, brother, uncle and friend who passed away aged 74 years old after a courageous battle with cancer. Albert faced his illness with remarkable strength, resilience and bravery. Albert lived a life built on hard work and deep love for his family. He was a man of integrity known for his wise words and steady presence. Whether offering practical advice or being a fearless advocate for those who felt unheard, he stood firmly never afraid to challenge authority. At home he was kind, loving, gentle and loyal ensuring those he loved were safe and valued. He leaves behind a legacy of love, courage and values and will be deeply missed, forever respected and always remembered.

Service to take place Friday 20th March 2026 at Harton Cemetery, graveside only at 9:15am.

It is with great sadness we share the loss of our beloved Peter Bassett, who passed away on 21st February 2026 surrounded by his family, aged 59 years after a brave and courageous battle with bowel cancer.

We are truly heartbroken to lose such an amazing man and our family will never be the same without him. The love he gave us, the strength he showed and the memories he created will stay with us forever. Devoted husband to Lisa, loving and proud dad to Jess, James and Jess’ husband George, son of the late Ossie and Isobel and brother to Paul; Peter's world was always his family.

Peter loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends. Whether he was betting on the horses, playing darts, enjoying a punk concert or scoring at the cricket club, he was happiest surrounded by the people he loved.

He truly was one of life’s kindest gentlemen and will always be remembered for his warmth, his laughter and his unapologetic honesty. In recent years, he joined the Live Well with Cancer community where he found a new love for painting. He cherished his weekly painting class and was such a valued member of the community, where he supported and inspired others around him going through difficult times, quietly putting others first as he often did.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew him. His strength, his spirit, his stubbornness, his laughter and his love will live on in all of us.

A celebration of Peter’s life will take place on Friday 27th March at 1:15pm at South Shields Crematorium, followed by The Hedworth Hall. All who knew and loved him are welcome to join us to give him the send off he deserves.

For those wishing to do so, we have kindly requested donations instead of flowers please. There will be collection boxes on the day for anyone who wishes to make a donation to the Live Well with Cancer Charity who supported Peter so much during the past few years, and continue to support his family.

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch with such kind condolences and lovely memories of Peter. Your words have meant a great deal to us all during this time.

FRANCES SEYMOUR (née McLaughlin, formerly Calcutt)

Passed away peacefully on 23 February 2026, aged 77 years.

Frances was the cherished daughter of George and Olga Calcutt, a much‑loved mum to Desmond, Peter and Douglas, a dear sister to Jean and Andrea, and a loving sister to George, Colin and Kevin. She was also a treasured Aunty, Nana and Great‑Nana, and will be deeply missed by all her family and everyone who knew her.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 17th March, at 10:30am at South Shields Crematorium.

Following the service, the family warmly invites everyone to join them for refreshments and food at The Beehive Inn, Mile End Rd, South Shields, NE33 1TF.

Shaun past away peacefully in hospital on 28th February 2026 aged 62yrs. Loving husband and soul mate to Jackie, devoted dad to Shaun, father in law to Rachel, loving granda to Finley and Ellis. Loved brother in law to Sylvie, George, Linda, Kenny, Cathy, Frankie, Doug, Willie and the late Sheila & Ronnie. Nephew to Rob and a much loved uncle.

Funeral Service to take place on Wednesday 25th March 2026 at South Shields Crematorium at 11:15am.

Family flowers only please, donations in lieu if so desired to The Animal Shelter in South Shields, this was a charity greatly supported by Shaun and a donations box will be placed at the crematorium in his honour.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Whittle, who passed away on the 27th February 2026, aged 86 years. A devoted and loving husband of the late Eleanor , much loved father of Christine, Lorraine and John. Beloved father in law to Jim and Kevin. Cherished granda and great granda, beloved brother of Anne and Val. Please meet for funeral service at South Shields Crematorium on Wednesday 25th March 2026 at 2.45pm. He was loved beyond words and will be missed always.

Garrett Henry (Harry)
Hebburn

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Henry (Harry) Garrett, who passed away peacefully on 21st February, aged 88 years.

A devoted and loving husband of Margaret, a much loved dad of Andrea and beloved father-in-law to Derek. A proud and caring granda to Beth and Ross, a cherished great granda to Martha, Maeva and Ida and a dearly loved brother, brother in law and uncle. He will also be fondly remembered by Ian and Tase, the partners of his treasured grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at South Shields Crematorium on Wednesday 18th March at 12:30pm. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, may be made to the British Heart Foundation via a collection box available on the day.

Family and friends are warmly invited to join in remembering Harry and celebrate his life at the Holiday Inn Boldon (formerly the Clarion hotel).

We take great comfort in knowing he is now at peace. He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

Dulcie Proudlock
South Shields

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dulcie Proudlock, aged 93, a much‑loved mother, mother‑in‑law, grandmother and great‑grandmother, who passed away peacefully in Hospital on 20th February, surrounded by love.

Dulcie is now reunited with her beloved husband Bob Proudlock, bringing comfort to all who knew and loved her.

Dulcie leaves behind her devoted children Robert, Derek and Anne, and was a cherished mother‑in‑law to Lesley, Lynne and Ken. She was a proud and much‑loved Grandma and Great Grandma, whose warmth, kindness and gentle humour touched every generation of her family.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her caring nature, her resilience, and the unconditional love she gave so freely.

The funeral service will be held on Friday 13th March at 1:15pm at South Shields Crematorium.
Family flowers only, please. It was Dulcie’s wish that donations be made to the North East Air Ambulance, and a collection box will be available at the service for anyone wishing to contribute.

May she rest in peace.

William Heron (Billy)

Billy sadly passed away suddenly but peacefully at home, on the 23rd of February aged 81 years.
A treasured husband of Angela for 56 years, a cherished dad to Rebecca and Rachael and father in law to Phil, an absolutely adored granda of Jack, Poppy and Ruby.
Billy was an amazing man who lived for his family he will be a huge miss to anyone that had the privilege of meeting him.
His funeral will take place at South Shields crematorium at 12:30 on the 23rd of March, followed by a celebration of his life at The Little Haven. All are warmly welcomed.

Passed away following a long illness aged 77 years.
Loving husband to Margaret. Devoted dad to Paul, Pamela and David. Father in law to Claire and Kenny. Grandad to Leanne Jade Robyn Thomas and Lucy. Great grandad Joel Leo Poppy Georgina Olive and Isabelle.

Stuart will be lovingly missed by all his family and friends.

Service to celebrate Stuart’s life will be held at South Shields Crematorium on 9th March @ 10:30.

Ernie Bell

Ernie sadly passed away peacefully on 23 rd February 2026, aged 85years, with his loving family by his side.

A loving husband to Kathy, much loved dad of Karen and Gillian, cherished granda to Kevin, Shaun, James, Beth and Lauren. Great granda to Jessie.

Ernie was a kind and generous man who touched the hearts of many, he will be sadly missed.

The funeral service will take place at South Shields Crematorium on Thursday 19 th March at 11.15am followed by a gathering at the Vigilant Pub, Sunderland Road to celebrate Ernie’s life. Family and friends are warmly welcomed.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of the late Thomas Patrick Leonard (Tommy) on Sunday 15th February 2026 aged 86 years.

Tommy will be sadly missed by all his loving family and friends.
Please meet for funeral service on Thursday 12th March 2026 at the Chapel in Harton Cemetery South Shields 12.15pm followed by interment.

Following the service all are welcome back to Hedworth Hall to continue the celebration of Tommy's Life .

Peacefully passed away on 19th February 2026 aged 85 years old surrounded by her loving family.

Much loved Mam of Gail, Lynn and Brian. Loved Mother-in-Law of Don, Ian and Abi. Loved Nana to Steven, Craig, Lisa, Laura, Ryan, Ethan and Grace and Great Nana of Amelia, Morgan, Sophia, Kaeden, Daniel, Nathan and Phoebe. Also, loving friend and partner of Jimmy.

Please meet for the funeral service on Tuesday 24th March 2026 at 1:45pm at All Saints Boldon Lane, South Shields,followed by internment at Harton Cemetery at 2:30pm.

All welcome afterwards at The Old Ship, Harton, Sunderland Road, to celebrate Rita’s life. Family flowers only. Donations will be gratefully received in memory of Rita and will be donated to Brysons Animal Rescue.
