🩺 Today is World Diabetes Day – 14 November
Raise a foot-friendly wave for awareness! 👣
At Health First Foot & Gait Clinic, we know that diabetes isn’t just about blood sugar – it also affects the feet. Nerve damage and poor circulation mean that small foot problems can escalate. But (good news) with the right prevention and care, many issues are avoidable.
Here are some helpful resources we’ve pulled together:
🔹 “5 Tips for Caring for Diabetic Feet” – simple daily habits to keep your feet safe.

🔹 “The Cost of Diabetic Foot Ulceration” – why early care matters (financially, emotionally, physically). https://www.healthfirstsoutham.co.uk/foot-problems/the-cost-of-diabetic-foot-ulceration/
🔹 “How to Cure Foot Ulcers” – what foot ulcers involve and how specialist care can help.

✅ What you can do right now
– Inspect your feet daily: look for cuts, blisters, redness or swelling.
– Wash & moisturise with care (but keep moisturiser out from between the toes) as described in our “5 tips” blog.
– Wear well-fitting shoes with good support. One ill-fitting pair can trigger damage.
– Avoid heat pads, crossing legs for long stretches and any situation where circulation is compromised.
– See a podiatrist at the first sign of anything unusual. Early intervention is everything.
📣 Why it matters
Foot ulcers can be serious — even life-changing. As we highlight in the blog “The Cost of Diabetic Foot Ulceration”, these ulcers affect the skin, bone, nerves and circulation — and impact not just mobility, but quality of life and mental health too.
But the flip side? With timely, specialist care — such as we provide using advanced laser therapy — healing is possible.
Let’s use this World Diabetes Day to step up foot-care awareness together.
