What an incredible day at Southampton Common! 🧑‍🎄
Over 200 runners, walkers and even a few four-legged friends joined our festive Mental Elf fun run this weekend, raising more than £10,000 to support mental health services across Hampshire. 🎄

Despite the soggy weather, the atmosphere was full of joy and community spirit. From elf costumes and Christmas outfits to our ‘Elf-Yourself’ stations, everyone crossed the finish line looking the part. Families enjoyed festive activities, the Marchwood Military Wives Choir filled the air with Yuletide classics, and Studio Twenty3 led a lively warm-up to get us moving. 👟

Every pound raised will help us provide vital mental health support for people who need it most. A huge thank you to everyone who took part, donated or cheered us on – and to our sponsors David Wilson Homes, Rees Leisure and Studio Twenty3 for making this magical event possible. ✨

Christmas doesn’t have to look like the adverts. 🎄
Ann Carver, founder of Better Spending Habits, reminds us:
“Don’t feel pressured to have the same Christmas you see on telly. Do what you want, not what is expected of you.”

The festive season can bring financial strain and emotional pressure but our Winter Wellbeing Toolkit offers practical tips to help you manage money and protect your mental health, alongside ideas for self-care, coping with grief and easing the winter blues. 💙

Most of our services are funded through contracts, but donations allow us to go further – creating spaces that make a real difference to people’s lives.

Last year, thanks to the kindness of our supporters, we were able to create a calming sensory room at our South West Safe Haven. We upgraded Mayfield Garden Centre and Café, making it a welcoming space for connection. We provided tablets for our dementia service, helping people engage with modern activities that boost cognitive wellbeing. And we trained Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners in perinatal mental health, supporting parents during a vulnerable time.

These projects aren’t covered by contracts – they happen because of community support. We want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helps us work towards better mental health in Hampshire – one step at a time.

The holiday season can bring joy, but it can also feel overwhelming. Our December workshop week is here to help you find balance, connect with others and look after your wellbeing. 💙

From managing triggers at Christmas to mindful moments and creative activities like wreath making, there’s something for everyone. We’ll also explore practical tools for seasonal stress, support for people with neurodivergence and ways to protect your wellbeing during busy times.
Workshops run from 15 to 19 December 2025 and all sessions are free, but make sure you speak with a Wellbeing Advisor for an assessment before booking.

This Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to remind every man that it’s okay to talk about how you feel not just in November, but 365 days of the year.💙

Too often, stigma and stereotypes stop men from asking for help. But your mental health matters, and taking time to check in with others or speak to someone you trust can make a real difference.

If you’re finding things hard, you’re not alone - we’re here to listen and support you.

Calling all Christmas fairies, elves, and even Grinch’s – we need your help! 🎄💙

Mental Elf spaces are almost sold out for runners with just 20 tickets left, but we still need helpers to make the day magical.
However much time you’re able to give, we’ll fit your role around your preferences as best we can – whether you’d like to cheer on participants, hand out medals or help at our ‘elf-yourself’ stations.

When you volunteer for Mental Elf, you'll not only join our fun, friendly team to support mental health in Hampshire but you can also enjoy a free National Trust family pass for the year!

As part of our Beyond The Label campaign, we worked with first-year media students from Solent University, Southampton to challenge stigma and start conversations about mental health and wellbeing. We asked the students to create short films exploring mental health in everyday life. 🎥

The clip featured at the end of this video focuses on the power of green spaces in Southampton. One of the students shared how being in green spaces helps him manage ADHD and anxiety, offering a break from busy streets and university life. 🪴

We were pleased to see the young men involved speaking openly about their experiences of mental health. By sharing their stories, we hope to encourage you to join the conversation about men’s mental health this . 💙

In Hampshire, thousands of people reached out for mental health support last year - and we were here to support them. 💙

Solent Mind provided help to 1,289 people through our Hampshire wellbeing centres, supported 443 people in our crisis centres, trained 659 education professionals in self-harm awareness and spent £9.3 million on mental health services.

Our Impact Report from 2024-25 shows that despite challenging financial circumstances, we've continued to place communities at the heart of all we do - making sure that everyone has somewhere to turn to when they need mental health support.

Our supporters are amazing, and we’re taking time to say thank you. 💙📞

This November, teams within Solent Mind will be taking part in a 'Thankathon' by picking up the phone to call some of the amazing people who make our work possible. This includes our incredible corporate partners and community fundraisers who have given their time, their resources and their generosity to support mental health in Hampshire. 🌟

Although we will try our best to reach out to all of our supporters there may be some of you who we don't have contact details for, if you'd like to get in touch, we'd love to hear from you at fundraising@solentmind.org.uk.

Regardless of whether you hear from us, we're so grateful to all of our fantastic supporters - thank you for helping us make sure that no one in Hampshire faces a mental health problem alone.

Our Story

Starting in May 1964, we became part of a network of 124 local Minds in England and Wales which are independent charities. We have our own board of trustees, raise our own funds and tailor our support to the needs of people living in Hampshire.

Our approach ensures that people can trust Solent Mind to be on their side:

Open. We reach out to anyone who needs us.

Together. We’re stronger in partnership.
