National Hot Chocolate Day🍫

There is something wonderfully comforting about a warm cup of hot chocolate. Today at Oakland's we are celebrating this simple favourite with our residents, enjoying a cosy moment, good conversation, and a little extra sweetness in the day.☕

Whether topped with marshmallows, a swirl of cream, or enjoyed just as it is, hot chocolate is a small treat that can bring big smiles and a lovely sense of togetherness.

The wonderful ladies from the ukulele group Strum4Fun generously gave up their time and returned to Oaklands to spread some Christmas cheer. Their unique-sounding instruments brought a fresh twist to traditional Christmas songs. Residents and staff enjoyed singing along to the upbeat melodies, and one member of the group added extra joy by dancing with some of the residents.

The afternoon was topped off with rich, delicious hot chocolate and warm sausage rolls. We look forward to welcoming Strum4Fun back in 2026!

Part of the Christmas spirit is the joy of giving, and our residents embraced this wholeheartedly as they donned their creative hats to make Christmas cards for their loved ones. Choosing their card colours, selecting decorations, and arranging each element to design their own unique Christmas cards was a wonderful experience—especially for those who had never made cards before.

The room was filled with conversation, Christmas cheer, and warm reminiscing. Everyone was delighted with their creations and are now looking forward to sharing them with their loved ones.

Christmas cheer truly arrived at Oaklands with the joyful visit of The Salvation Army Band! The uplifting sounds of their brass instruments and beautiful vocal solos filled the room with warmth and nostalgia, bringing to life treasured memories of Christmases gone by. After delighting everyone with their festive performance, the band spread even more Christmas magic with a special visit to resident Rob. The band members, who are dear friends of his, were thrilled to sing for him. Rob himself was a proud member of the Salvation Army from 2014 to 2024 and still takes part whenever he can.

To make the occasion even sweeter, everyone enjoyed delicious mince pies and warming mulled wine. It was a truly heart-warming celebration, and we are immensely grateful to The Salvation Army Band for sharing their time, talent, and Christmas spirit with us. Their visit was a real festive treat, and we sincerely hope to welcome them back again next year to continue this wonderful Christmas tradition.

Flour-dusted aprons, carefully rolled pastry and spoons of rich, spiced mincemeat – our ladies had a wonderful time making traditional mince pies from scratch. The room was filled with festive scents, stories, and plenty of laughter, and the best part was enjoying the warm mince pies together when they were freshly baked. 🥧🎄

We kicked off Christmas in the best way at Oaklands with a wonderful visit from singer Amanda Parsons! 🎶✨ Her sunny personality and festive favourites had residents singing, dancing, and joining in with musical instruments—such a joyful atmosphere! ❤️🎄

Visitors also loved browsing our Christmas stalls, featuring beautiful handcrafted jewellery and seasonal arts and crafts. A perfect start to the festive season! 🎁✨
