What are skin tags?
• Skin tags are a common skin condition resembling a small piece of soft, hanging skin.
• Derived from skin cells and composed of loose fibrous tissue they can present as either single or multiple.
• Their often hyper-pigmented colour makes them more obvious and although they are harmless they can be irritating and cosmetically unattractive.
• They are found on perfectly healthy people and are not directly associated with any other major medical conditions although heredity also has its part to play.
• Some people are more susceptible to skin tags; they are most common in older and/or overweight people, they can appear in pregnancy and individuals with diabetes.
• Most frequently found on the neck where friction from necklaces, collars and scarves are to blame or under the arms where friction from arms rubbing and seams from clothes are the initiating factor.
• Skin tags become particularly irritating when they develop in sensitive areas such as under the breasts, near the groin, or around the eye.
Skin tags can be permanently removed with diathermy electrolysis
• Electrolysis is a quick, easy and effective method of skin tag removal and is safe to use in all areas.
• Electrolysis results in immediate removal of the tag and can take only seconds depending on tag size. Clusters of flat tags may take more than one treatment depending on time booked.
• However, skin tag removal treatment in ultra sensitive areas such as the breasts, groin and around the eyes is a skill requiring the dexterity as well as a high level of experience and expertise that we have at Akila Holistic.
• It is important to choose a highly qualified professional to perform the intricate precise work involved in diathermy skin tag removal. This demands a steady hand, experience, thorough training and an excellent standard of hygiene and sterilisation and Local Authority registration.
Make an appointment to speak to June at Akila Holistic to discuss your needs, and say goodbye to those pesky skin tags.

Do you struggle with unwanted hair on your face? Fed up with plucking (or shaving) and watching the hair return stronger and darker?
We can help. Electrolysis - For permanent hair removal.
Superfluous hair is perfectly normal at certain stages of a womans life, such as puberty, pregnancy and menopause. Hair found at these times usually disappears once the normal hormone balance has returned, unless it has been removed with temporary methods such as shaving and plucking, which stimulates it to keep returning.
Treatment is also received by male clients. Examples include removal from areas causing irritation ie: neck & face or clients undergoing gender reassignment.
Medication, anorexia, Cushings syndrome and polycystic o***y syndrome can also result in an abnormal change in the endocrine system, causing a hormonal imbalance leading to unwanted hair growth.
Electrical epilation is used to permanently remove unwanted (excess) hair. A fine probe (smaller than the hair it is epilating) is used to deliver an electrical current to the hair follicle to destroy the hair root. The electrical current eventually destroys the hair follicle tissue, preventing the hair from regrowing.

It’s very on-trend to be hair-free right now, but how are you going to go about removing the fuzz?
Laser and IPL are very popular choices, but do they really compare to permanency of electrolysis? These are the pros and cons of the treatment methods.
Book your hair removal treatment at Akila Holistic now by texting 07384 441172 for an appointment.
* I feel that I must clarify (before anyone comes back at me), I am not 'bashing' all laser IPL operators, there are some very highly qualified people out there, my aim is to point out the differences between the treatments.
** it has been pointed out to me that the text is difficult to read on a phone (sorry), which is why I put quite a delay between transitions to allow time to enlarge it.

Taking care of your skin is more than just a cosmetic concern; it’s essential for your overall health. Your skin is the body's largest organ and serves as a barrier against harmful elements, regulates body temperature, and allows the sensations of touch, heat, and cold. Healthy skin is crucial for protecting your body from infections and environmental damage.
Many factors influence skin health, including genetics, age, and lifestyle choices. Environmental factors such as pollution, UV radiation, and harsh weather conditions can also take a toll on your skin. But one of the most significant and often overlooked factors is hydration. Without proper hydration, your skin can't function at its best.
Hydration is fundamental to maintaining skin health. Water makes up about 64% of your skin, and it's vital for maintaining its elasticity, plumpness, and smooth appearance. Proper hydration helps to flush out toxins, deliver nutrients to skin cells, and maintain the skin’s protective barrier. When your skin is well-hydrated, it appears healthier, more radiant, and more resilient.
Dehydrated skin can look dull, feel tight, and be prone to irritation. Common signs include dry patches, flakiness, and an increased appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. If your skin feels less elastic or looks less vibrant than usual, it might be a sign that it’s not getting enough hydration.
Drinking adequate water is the most straightforward way to stay hydrated. The general recommendation is about eight glasses of water a day, but individual needs can vary based on factors like body weight, activity level, and climate. Listen to your body: if you're thirsty, it's a sign you need to drink more.
Consuming water-rich foods can also contribute to your hydration. Fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, watermelon, oranges, and strawberries have high water content and provide additional vitamins and minerals that are beneficial for skin health.
Drinking water isn't the only way to hydrate your skin. Using moisturisers and serums that contain hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and aloe vera can help lock in moisture and provide an extra layer of hydration. These products can be especially effective when applied after bathing, as they help to seal in the moisture that your skin has absorbed. Well-hydrated skin maintains its elasticity better, which helps to reduce the appearance of sagging and keeps your skin looking youthful and firm. Hydrated skin is plumper, which makes fine lines and wrinkles less noticeable. When your skin cells are hydrated, they can function more effectively, leading to a smoother, more even skin surface. Proper hydration can also improve your skin tone and give you a healthy glow. Hydrated skin has better blood flow, which can enhance your complexion and make your skin look more vibrant and alive.
In conclusion, maintaining proper hydration is crucial for skin health. Not only does it improve the appearance of your skin, but it also supports its protective functions and overall health. Remember to drink plenty of water, eat hydrating foods, and use topical hydrating products to keep your skin looking its best.
