It has been a lovely weekend for us, spending time with family and time outdoors - even if we did get very wet watching Fireworks on Friday night!

This week I feel inspired to explore a yoga flow with simple, familiar movements and poses, with some repetitions to allow ourselves to feel familiar with our flow.

When we create a feeling of familiarity in our movement, it allows us to settle into our practice without wondering what is coming next. This creates a more relaxed and meditative feel to our practice and may allow you to focus your attention more on your breath, physical alignment or upon quietening the mind.

This will be an all round yoga flow, including poses to strengthen and mobilise our body, as well as elements of balance and breath work and you will be invited to move in a way that feels right for you and your body.

I look forward to sharing this class with you and I would love for you to join me!

03/11/2025

It has been lovely to have the children back this weekend and we have taken it as an opportunity for a relaxed few days and to spend time outdoors as we enter November!

The days may be shorter but the nights are a little brighter this week as we welcome the November Full Moon on the 5th. And this month’s full moon is a super moon, meaning that the skies will be even brighter. Not only is it a super moon, but it is set to be the largest and brightest super moon of the year!

The November full moon is known as the Beaver Moon as it appears in the sky at the time of year when beavers are at their busiest, building their dams to prepare for the winter months ahead.

To reflect this, we will be taking a flow to recognise the full moon, working our way through the beautiful moon salute, Chandra Namaskar. This is a salutation to the moon and includes poses which create a sense of openness and mobility in the hips, chest and shoulders.

It will also be an opportunity to think about letting go of things that no longer serve us as we move forward into the next season and direct our focus towards gentle and quiet tasks to prepare us for the winter months ahead.

I would love for you to join me!

Although it’s now half term, it’s very quiet in our house as the children have gone for a little holiday with their grandparents!

I am going to miss them lots, but I am also looking forward to the opportunity this week to truly slow down and do things using my own timetable; it’s going to be very strange!

As the clocks go back and we shift into this darker, colder and slower time of year, where the days are short and the desire to curl up on the sofa wrapped up in a blanket is strong, it’s important that we reflect this shift in energy through our actions, giving ourselves permission to slow down and be a little quieter.

And so in yoga this week we will be taking a slow, calming flow to match this shift in energy. We will be focussing on a gentle connection to our breath and body and embracing the concept of rest. You will leave class feeling rested and restored and ready for this next part of the year and all that it brings.

I would love for you to join me!

What a day I have had today! Some of you may know that I was running the Great South Run for the fabulous Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association and it was quite a wet and windy run today - I think it will be weeks before my trainers are dry again! But what a fantastic atmosphere to be a part of and what amazing support from my cheer squad!

Running is another of my passions next to Yoga. Although Yoga is so much more than a physical practice and exercise, it is a fabulous complement to running or other physical activity and this was one of the reasons that I found Yoga in the first place.

A regular Yoga practice certainly builds strength and mobility within the body, but it also teaches us to connect more deeply with our bodies, breath and mind. For me, Yoga is a fantastic way to build the mental strength and resilience that I need to keep running when the journey feels tough and to understand my thoughts and actions more deeply.

In Yoga last week i shared with you a practice that was all about mobility and flexibility and this week in Yoga, we will be taking a class that focuses upon the strength building aspects of a Yoga practice - both physically and mentally, as well as creating a deeper connection to our breath as a magic tool for this.

We will focus on how our muscles engage within poses and within the traditions between poses, working on the muscles in our upper and lower body, as well as our core.

I would love for you to join me!

After a week of feeling really quite rotten and poorly I am looking forward to getting back on the mat and back to normality!

And as I really wanted to teach an Autumn themed class last week, we will be taking our Autumn flow a week later and 2 weeks after the Autumn Equinox ;-)
However, I don’t know about you but I have really noticed a change in the colours of the leaves over the last week, and so an Autumn themed class feels even more appropriate!

In class this week we will be reflecting this shift within our flow. We will begin with more fluid movement to reflect the more energetic energy of summer and then shift towards poses that we will hold and linger in for longer, to reflect the slower more grounding energy of Autumn.

You will leave class feeling as though you have moved your body and connected to your muscles and the ground beneath you, as well as feeling rested and calm. You are welcome to bring along a pillow to make the final poses in class that little bit more luxurious and restful (but this is not mandatory :-))

I would love for you to join me!

Hi everyone. Some of you might know that one of my other loves next to yoga is running and this year I have been training for the Great South Run.
I am running to raise money for a fantastic charity Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association who work to support people with Down Syndrome and their families to live their best lives across Hampshire and beyond!
My training has been slightly derailed by a lovely sinus infection this week but while I am resting and recovering it has given me the opportunity to make a final push for sponsorship.
So if anyone feels they may be able to spare a few pennies for this fabulous charity I would be super grateful ❤️

29/09/2025

I have had a beautiful weekend in Cornwall with my husband, celebrating our wedding anniversary. We have had some gorgeous late September sunshine and so we have been able to get outside and explore some of the coastal paths.

Although the days are still feeling warm when the sun shone, the mornings and evenings have definitely got that chilly autumnal feel. and the natural world has also shifted; despite the clear blue skies, the colours of summer have been replaced by some subtle autumnal shades.

Last week marked the Autumn Equinox, that point in the second half of the year when day and night are approximately equal in length around the world because the Earth’s axis is tilted neither toward nor away from the sun. This point marks the start of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and from now we will notice that our days are becoming progressively shorter and nights longer as the hemisphere tilts further from the sun as we head towards winter.

I have been reflecting recently upon the importance of practising Yoga within my life. When I first started taking Yoga classes may years ago, I certainly showed up on the mat with the aim of increasing my physical flexibility, maybe learning some funky postures (Asanas) and as another part of my fitness routine. And there was absolutely nothing wrong with that - Yoga is a fantastic tool for achieving all of these things.

However, the more I practised, experienced and learned as a yoga student, the less yoga became about the physical for me and the more it became about connecting to myself and the world around me on a deeper level, having time to pause and reflect upon my values and taking these reflections off the mat and into my life.

When we speak about the philosophy that underpins Yoga, we often speak of the Eight Limbs of Yoga. The first of these Eight Limbs are the Yamas which are essentially things that Yoga teaches us to refrain from doing, and the first of the Yamas is Ahimsa which translates as ‘non-violence’. Yoga teaches us to treat ourselves, others and the world around us with kindness and avoid harm, through our actions, our words and our thoughts.

When I step back and look at the world around me at present, for so many reasons, the concept of Ahimsa feels more important than ever to me.

And so in class this week, we will be connecting to Ahimsa through our movements and thoughts. We will be moving and thinking with kindness to ourselves and others and I will invite you to take Ahimsa off the mat and into your week and your life.

I would love for you to join me!

I hope that everyone has had a great weekend! We have had a pretty quiet one after the busy back to school chaos and it’s been nice to get some of the jobs done that we had put on hold before summer started!

There has definitely been a turn in the weather and it felt noticeably cooler and autumnal on my run this morning. And with high winds forecast this week, it feels like the perfect week to take an Eagle pose (Garudasana) inspired flow.

Garudasana is a standing balance posture, which also involves crossing or intertwining our arms and legs in front of our body, while finding our balance on one leg. To explore the pose, will be finding a sense of mobility within our shoulders, upper back and hips as well as strengthening our quads, gluts and core to create stability for our standing leg.

We will be thinking of the different ways that we can explore this pose, both through grounding down and stabilising ourself by finding strength and connection with the Earth, as well as finding a sense of lift and flight within the pose.

You will leave class with greater ease in your upper back and shoulders, as well as a sense of focus and calm.

I would love for you to join me!

It has been a busy week in our house; the big kids have gone back to school and my youngest has been getting ready for her very first day at school this week!

September always feels like a time for new beginnings in the same way that January is. We come through the busy summer months and September becomes an opportunity to take stock, reflect and plan for the rest of the year.

It can be a moment of reset, a chance to refocus and complete old tasks or to make plans for something new. It’s an opportunity to ask ‘What has changed for me this year?’, ‘Have my priorities changed?’ or ‘Where do I want to focus my energies now?’.

And so in Yoga this week, I will be inviting you to take a moment to pause and reflect. To consider what your intentions are for the remainder of the year and to consider what you need to achieve this? Maybe your intention is to move through the rest of the year with gentleness and kindness to yourself and to prioritise rest and wellbeing. Or perhaps your intention is to achieve a goal and harness the energy that you need to do so.

On the mat we will be balancing some energetic movement with moments of pause and I will invite you to set an intention for how you will move through class as well as through the months ahead.

I would love for you to join me!

I am just sending a gentle reminder that there are no yoga classes this week as I take a week off to settle the kids back into school.
We will be back to class on Wednesday the 10th and Thursday 11th September.

As we have taken the same flow throughout August, I would love to know if there are any poses or movement patterns that you have missed and I will make sure that I include them in our classes as we move into September!
