Perioral rejuvenation

This client wanted to improve the appearance of the lines around the bottom of her lip and the marionette lines which gave the appearance of her lip pulling down.

Melasma

Melasma is a common skin problem. The condition causes dark, discoloured Patches on your skin. It is also called chloasma, or ‘the mask of pregnancy.

The causes of melasma:
* Change in hormones
* Pregnancy
* Sun exposure
* Change in contraception
* Genetics

The most common areas are:
* Typical symmetrical patterns
* Upper lip
* Above and around the eye known as the ‘butterfly effect’.
* Chin
* Bridge of the nose
* forehead

Melanocytes are the cells which produce a pigment called melanin and an over production of melanocytes cause pigment to raise to the surface.

Melasma is not curable as it works from within us but it is manageable with long term treatment.

Xanthelasma

Xanthelasma are harmless yellow growths on or near the eyelids. They can be flat or slightly raised. They form when deposits of cholesterol (lipid or fat) build up under the skin.

You can get xanthelasmas between ages 20 and 70. Most people get them between ages 35 and 55.

A xanthelasma doesn’t go away without treatment. Instead, it stays the same size or gets bigger. You can’t pop or squeeze a xanthelasma like a pimple.

Seborrheic Keratosis

They are harmless growths on the skin, which tend to be more common in middle aged and older.

They are benign growths due to a build up of ordinary skin cells. They tend to come in all different shapes and sizes and some can be flat to the skin. It’s possible to have just one of these growths, but most people develop several.

You can fine seborrheic keratosis anywhere on the body except the palms and soles. Most often, you’ll see them on the chest, back, head, or neck.

Causes of seborrheic keratosis
•Tends to run in families. Some people seem to inherit a tendency to get many of these growths.
•The sun may play a role in causing seborrheic keratoses.
•Seborrheic keratoses are not contagious. These growths may seem to multiply and spread to other parts of the body but people get more as they age.
