ARE YOU STILL WORKING?
In the last 18 months I have been asked this question many times.
It’s a little disarming, as to me, it’s business as usual.
Despite the fact I have battled and overcome cancer I have continued to operate my business and provide for my family. (I should say not alone, my wife has a thriving business too so we are a good team.)
I guess to people on the outside, running your own business is tough, managing a young family is tough, so throwing into the mix months of recovery it seems impossible that I was able to continue with running my business.
If I rewind a few years. You know, the pre-covid days. Then I would probably have answered differently. But I changed up my business a little when the world changed.
I had already dabbled with partnerships in the past. I am a natural collaborator and connector and so it made sense to create something bigger than I could alone.
But when I tried partnerships in the past, they didn't always work out.
However, I decided to do some research and study how others are doing it and formed an "ideal partner avatar" and a system for acquiring the right partners.
That meant I can avoid the mistakes of picking wrong partnerships like I had in the past.
Now I work with some brilliant businesses who are more than happy to share in the success we create together.
I have partners not clients.
The day of my surgery in 2022, I decided to launch one of my partners new courses. I set everything up beforehand and with the automagic tools available to me I knew the message would get out without me pushing buttons.
I did it on this day for two reasons.
1. Prove you can be totally location free
2. Prove you can be totally time free
To still earn money.
During my 13 hour surgery, with 5 surgeons taking turns, my partnership got up and running on it's own as the whirrs and the clicks on the internet did their thing.
(Well, emails sending and website landing pages receiving essentially)
Not brain surgery.
Or life-saving cancer surgery.
When I came round two days later, I couldn't resist a peek.
I opened my phone, logged in from there and was shocked.
With this one client we had done over £40k in sales on the day of my surgery.
Both paid in full and payment plans. (We went on to do multiple six figures over the year together)
I had also done a smaller launch with another client and we did a further £11k with them.
With my percentages I worked out I had earnt more than the surgeons operating on me.
Pretty cool.
It meant I had finally worked out how to divorce time for money and I was up and running with revenue share.
I could take it easy for a bit while I recovered as I wasn't trading time for money now.
I just needed to keep and eye on things. Then turn my attention to finding more partners.
But while I do that, I thought it would be great to bring together some of the worlds best revenue share deal makers to share how they do it.
I want anyone who has digital marketing skills facing the same dilemma of wanting to remove the time for money element in their business to adopt this.
It's certainly helped me in a time where I needed to slow down a bit, but it could be for many reasons.
Taking time off for having a baby
Going on holiday
Scaling a business with few or zero employees
Having fewer clients paying more
Doing the school runs
Going out for dinner
And still earning money for work you already did.
