Sometimes the news cycle can feel overwhelming.

Wars. Politics. Global uncertainty.

It’s easy to feel like the world is spinning in directions we can’t influence.

But I keep coming back to what is within my control.

Fueling well.
Moving my body.
Recovering properly.
Helping people build strength, energy and confidence.

And living more of every day.

That’s what banking health looks like.

In midlife, ignoring your body isn’t toughness. It’s poor strategy.

This morning I stopped my run after 2 km.

Nothing dramatic.
Just my back telling me something wasn’t quite right.

Ten years ago I would probably have pushed through.
Finished the session.
Called it discipline.
And made it worse.

But midlife has given me a bit of a superpower:

Listening to my body.

Because sometimes the smartest training decision
is knowing when to stop.

Stopping today often means you can keep moving tomorrow.

That’s not weakness.

That’s power.

And that’s what banking health looks like.

A lot of people think midlife decline is inevitable.

But very often what I see is something much simpler.

People trying to keep the same habits they had when they were younger.

Less sleep.
Poor fuelling.
Training hard but recovering poorly.
Running on stress and caffeine.

Many of us got away with it in our twenties.

Midlife doesn’t mean decline.

It often just means the body now asks for updated habits and better support.

Better sleep.
Better fuelling.
Strength training.
Recovery.

Small upgrades.

Big health deposits.

One of the fastest ways to feel like you’re declining in midlife is comparison.

Comparing yourself to your younger self.
How fast you used to run.
How easily you used to recover.

But there’s another trap I see a lot.

Trying to keep the same habits you had when you were younger.

Little sleep.
Poor nutrition.
Stress on repeat.
Training hard but not supporting the body properly.

Many of us got away with that in our twenties.

Midlife is different.

Not because we’re “declining”,
but because the body now asks for better support.

Better sleep.
Better fueling.
Stress management.
More recovery.

Midlife isn’t about competing with your younger self.
It’s about building the version of you that lasts.

That’s what banking health looks like.

Every year I find myself thinking the same thing.

Why do we still need International Women’s Day?

Of course the intention is good — to recognise women and their achievements.

But the fact that we still need a reminder says a lot.

As the mum of an amazing woman, my hope is that she can thrive in a world where she doesn’t need a special day to be recognised.

Where her strength, ideas and abilities are simply seen for what they are.

Not because laws say women must be included.
Not because a calendar tells us to notice.

But because she is who she is, regardless of her gender.

That’s the world I hope she gets to live in.

Equality will be the day we don’t need this day anymore.

There’s something to be said about listening to your body rather than your watch.

This morning I didn’t look at my watch once at Parkrun.

No pace checks.
No chasing numbers.

Just running by feel.

I ran with a smile on my face, out of my comfort zone… but controlled.
The kind of effort where you know you’re working, but everything still feels right.

Mile 1 – easing in
Mile 2 – finding flow
Mile 3 – stronger
Last stretch – go me 😀

When I finished, I already felt it had been a good run — before even looking at the stats.

The data just reflected my experience.

It reminded me that one of the most valuable skills in training
is learning to recognise effort without always needing the data.

Turns out the body sometimes knows more than the watch. 🤷‍♀️

Midlife training isn’t about chasing numbers.

It’s about learning how your body works, respecting it, and building strength and energy that lasts.

That’s what banking health looks like.

How about you?
Do you run by feel… or by the watch?

06/03/2026

Midlife isn’t about reinventing yourself.

It’s about finding your way back.

Somewhere between busy lives, responsibilities, and years of “just getting on with it,” many of us drift a little.

We stop doing the things that actually support us.

Moving our bodies.
Sleeping properly.
Looking after our energy.

The good news?

Midlife gives us the opportunity to find our way back.

Back to our home-self — the version of us who feels stronger, steadier, and supported from the inside out.

That’s what I mean when I talk about banking your health.

Small deposits — movement, nourishment, rest — that quietly bring you back.

✨ And if you feel like you’ve drifted a little and want support finding your way back, my inbox is always open.

Midlife health update 👀

Nothing dramatic…
but something interesting showed up in my latest blood test.

One marker had improved by 1.2 points compared to last year.

What changed?

A couple of small nutrition tweaks
and better hormonal support.

Everything else stayed the same.

Which is a good reminder that small health deposits add up over time.

No extreme diets.
No detox.
No cutting every enjoyable food out of life.

Just the simple basics:

Moving regularly.
Eating mostly supportive food (with exceptions because… life).
Sleeping better.
Managing stress when I can.

Turns out the small stuff matters.

Midlife health isn’t built through heroic efforts.

It’s built through consistent deposits over time.

Exactly like a pension…
except this one pays out in energy, strength and feeling good now.

What’s one small health habit that’s been paying off for you lately?

I finished today’s run session with pleasantly heavy legs.

Slightly cooked.
Not destroyed.
Feeling powerful.

5 x 1K at “midlife pace.”
Stronger than planned. Controlled. Even.

And it reminded me of something important.

This isn’t about trying to be 25 again
(to be fair, at that age I didn’t even run for the bus 🤪).

It’s about:

Consistent strength.
Fueling properly.
Deloading wisely.
Listening to your body.
Building something that lasts.

Midlife isn’t decline.

It’s smarter decisions.

That’s what banking health looks like.

In midlife, you don’t need a new you. You need a new conversation.

That voice that says you’re not good enough?

It shows up in midlife in sneaky ways.

• “I’m too old to start.”
• “It’s too late to change.”
• “Other people are better at this.”
• “It’s just an age thing.”

But here’s what I’ve noticed — in myself and in the people I coach.

Midlife isn’t decline.
It’s choice.

It’s when you can stop trying to prove…
and start choosing what actually supports you.

More strength.
Better sleep.
Clearer boundaries.
More Energy - yes you read that right!

That voice doesn’t disappear.
You just stop giving it the steering wheel.

And that’s a powerful health deposit.

This used to feel like self-care.
(Charcoal detox for the face… generous pour of “anti-oxidants” to help me relax.)

I used to think I deserved the glass of wine.

Long day? Wine.
Stress? Wine.
Tired? Definitely wine.

I called it self-care.

But most evenings, what I actually needed
was sleep.

Simple.

I used to think going to bed early was a luxury.
Now I see it as an investment.

Energy feels better.
My brain feels clearer.
Training feels stronger.

That’s the blurred line.

Self-care isn’t always indulgent.

Ageing with a positive attitude
means looking after future you.

And more often than not,
it’s simply going to bed early.

👉 What would future-you choose tonight?

If you’re learning to spot your own blurred lines,
that awareness alone is a powerful first step.

Have you got that little voice in your head that tells you you’re not good enough?

Mine showed up again this morning.

So instead of letting it run the show, I asked it a few questions:

• Is that actually true?
• When was the last time I heard this… and it turned out I was good enough?
• What’s the worst that happens if it doesn’t go to plan? (Usually… nothing catastrophic. Not failure — just feedback.)
• What would I say to a friend if they felt this way?

Most of us have that voice.

But here’s the thing — we don’t have to believe it.

Managing your health in midlife isn’t just about movement and nutrition.
It’s about managing the thoughts that try to keep you small.

Today?
