PBS4 We provide neurodisability services to adults in their own homes. Operating across Hampshire, Berkshire, Dorset, Oxfordshire, Somerset and the Isle of Wight.

https://pbs4.org.uk/recruitment/ We are a not for profit and social enterprise support provider for adults and young adults who have learning disabilities and/or autism. Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) model of support helps people with learning disabilities achieve their ambitions and reduces the need for “challenging” behaviours using evidence-based approaches. We support people to live in their own homes, with their own tenancies. Our CEO Jonathan Beebee is a registered Learning Disabilities Nurse and qualified Behaviour Analyst. We are a medium-sized organisation supporting 35 people across Hampshire, Dorset, Berkshire and Oxfordshire and with a workforce of just over 200.

Earlier this month Jonathan attended Mencap’s ‘Homes Not Hospitals’ Exhibit in London.

Jonathan reflected on the day saying ‘It was a privilege to attend the launch of the Mencap Homes Not Hospitals campaign. Great to meet some of the families who have been involved in putting the exhibition together!’

The new Every Child Achieving and Thriving White Paper includes some welcome proposals; particularly a stronger focus on early intervention and providing support without needing a formal diagnosis.

However, it also raises important concerns.

Limiting EHCPs to only the “most complex” cases, without defining what that means, risks some children falling through the gaps. Without clear criteria, how do we make sure the children who need support receive it; without turning it into a competition over who is “most disabled”? The vital contribution of learning disability nurses is also noticeably absent.

At PBS4, we have increasingly shifted toward using the term “Neurodisability Support.” The label “learning disability” continues to be misunderstood and too often doesn’t secure the support that people and families need. “Neurodisability Support” better reflects the full range of neurological and physical needs we see every day.

But an important question remains:
If diagnosis becomes less central to accessing support, how will children with complex needs be identified and supported?

The government consultation on these proposals is a key opportunity to shape what happens next. We want your voices; families, professionals, and people with lived experience, to be part of that conversation.

Please email us your views at hello@pbs4.org.uk so we can ensure they help inform our response to the consultation.
