Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) model of support helps people with learning disabilities achieve their ambitions and reduces the need for “challenging” behaviours using evidence-based approaches. We support people to live in their own homes, with their own tenancies. Our CEO Jonathan Beebee is a registered Learning Disabilities Nurse and qualified Behaviour Analyst. We are a medium-sized organisation supporting 35 people across Hampshire, Dorset, Berkshire and Oxfordshire and with a workforce of just over 200.

Last Thursday we had the privilege of welcoming Learning Disability Health Facilitators Louise and Alison from the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Trust to our Southampton office for a Cervical Screening Engagement Group.

The session was part of a wider project to help increase the uptake of cervical screening among people with a learning disability.

The aim was to talk about the importance of cervical screening for the people we support and to explore some of the barriers that might prevent them from attending. The meeting was open to parents, carers and the people we support, and included real cervical screening equipment and easy read information to help explain the process clearly.

It was a fantastic and empowering session that helped everyone feel more informed, confident and comfortable about cervical screening.

A huge thank you to Louise and Alison for delivering such an important and engaging session 💜

We Will Remember Them ❤️

Today, we honour all those who gave their lives in service and those whose lives have been deeply affected by war and conflict.

As we remember their courage and sacrifice, we also stand with people across the world who continue to endure the hardships of conflict and who long for peace. May we come together in empathy and solidarity to build a future free from violence and fear 🤍

Moving from children’s to adults’ services should be a positive step forward, and a chance for young people with learning disabilities to build on their strengths and live the life they want.

But too often, it's a stressful and confusing time that leaves families feeling lost and unsupported.

The Challenging Behaviour Foundation has written an open letter to government calling for change. It shares family experiences and sets out clear ways to make transitions smoother and more joined-up.

We completely agree that things need to change. Everyone deserves the right support at the right time so that moving into adulthood feels hopeful, not frightening.

👉 You can read and add your name to the letter here:

How can you help?

🎃🍂October was such a great month for the people we support. We got creative with Halloween crafts, faced our fears, and even braved the colder weather together. It’s been amazing to see everyone getting involved, trying new things, and making the most of the spooky season. 💪✨

Happy Bonfire Night 🎇
Over the next week there will be firework displays going on across the country 🔥

Whilst these festivities can be exciting, some people who want to experience the celebrations may find the bright lights and sounds a bit overwhelming!

Here are some tips on how to make the night enjoyable for everyone:

S: Sounds: Bring ear defenders or noise-cancelling headphones to help reduce loud bangs. Watching from a distance can also make the sounds more manageable.

E: Environment: Choose a quieter spot away from crowds or have an easy exit route if it becomes overwhelming.

N: Needs: Bring comfort items, snacks, or drinks; anything that helps someone feel safe.

S: Support: Go with friends, family, or your team who understand individual needs and can offer reassurance.

E: Expectations: Prepare in advance by watching videos of fireworks, talk through what will happen, and decide together how long to stay.

S: Sensory Breaks: Plan breaks in a calm area or car to recharge before returning to the fun!

In celebration of 11 years of PBS4 supporting people with learning disabilities and autism to live fulfilling lives, we’re proud to be donating £1,000 to Mencap, a national organisation supporting people with learning disabilities.

The donation will contribute towards our CEO Jonathan’s London Marathon 2026 fundraising - celebrating our shared purpose of enabling people with learning disabilities to live the lives they choose!

This reflects our ongoing commitment to working collaboratively, proactively, and in ways that enable people to thrive; supporting the learning disability community not only in the regions we work across, but also on a national scale through Mencap’s vital work.

We are proud to continue making a real difference in the lives of people with learning disabilities, today and every day.
