Depression and cannabis use may be linked to poorer memory in young people.

In ‘Cannabis use and episodic memory performance among adolescents’, Lehman and colleagues (2023) reported that the effect of the three-way interaction among cannabis use, depression symptoms, and s*x did not have a significant impact on episodic memory performance. Authors found that as depression symptoms increased, the negative association between cannabis Use and Episodic memory diminished. Follow-up analyses revealed a significant effect of the two-way interaction of cannabis use and depression symptoms on episodic memory. Future studies should replicate findings among individuals with more severe depression.

The study involved 360 adolescents.

The authors argue that as depression symptoms increased, the negative association between cannabis use and episodic memory diminished. Future studies should attempt to replicate findings among individuals with more severe depression. https://buff.ly/3ZdKvpS

The impact of childbirth has been largely ignored in the perinatal transition.

Conceptual model of childbirth that aims to illuminate the importance of including childbirth in multilevel perinatal research.

In ‘A multilevel developmental psychopathology model of childbirth and the perinatal transition’, a team led by Parisa Kaliush from the Department of Psychology (2023) noted that childbirth may be only a fragment of the perinatal period – let alone the life span – but it is a powerful point of change. Biological, psychological, and sociocultural aspects of childbirth have the potential to alter the health course of the entire family. Research and healthcare advancements should occur simultaneously and inform each other, as translational efforts will more effectively prevent traumatic childbirth experiences.

Some of the researchers’ conclusions seem to strengthen prior work in this area: “There is a burgeoning literature outside of psychology on perinatal and childbirth experiences among minoritized and marginalized populations. We integrate this literature throughout our review, consistent with multicultural perspectives and a developmental psychopathology framework,” Kaliush claimed.

Discussing possible shortcomings, “Biopsychosocial processes during pregnancy interact to shape the birth experience, which then propels multifinal postnatal health trajectories. It is incumbent on perinatal scientists to include childbirth in their investigations of maternal, offspring, and family health. Research and healthcare advancements should occur simultaneously and inform each other, authors say,” they say.

The authors advocate that more research is needed on valid measurement of the birth experience. This area of research may advance the limited understanding of partners’ risk for postnatal psychopathology.

Measures taken during the covid-19 epidemic had a huge impact on our Children.

The COVID-19 pandemic and response, which included physical distancing and stay-at-home orders, disrupted the daily lives of children and adolescents, isolating them from their peers, school, and other meaningful contacts. The present study aims to add to the accumulating evidence on the pandemic’s impact on child and adolescent suicidal behavior. https://buff.ly/3Dbd5ju
