To all of our New Forest patients, please be aware of news coming out of the New Forest Hospital.

⚠️ Parts of Lymington New Forest Hospital will be closed today (Wednesday February 18) due to no water or heating.

Some appointments have been cancelled and all affected patients are being contacted. Please do not attend Lymington Hospital today unless you are contacted by your healthcare team directly.

The Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Lymington is closed and people needing urgent care are asked to call 111, or locate their nearest UTC via the NHS 111 website: https://111.nhs.uk/

Southampton Residents:

· Are you aged 55-74?
· Are you a current or former smoker?
· Have you been invited for a hashtag Screening but did not attend?

If you answered ‘yes’ to these questions, then you may be one of 1,000 people invited to trial an at-home urine test as part of the UH-CAN LUNG study.

We are collaborating with University Hospital Southampton NHS FT and the Lung Cancer Screening team to determine whether at-home sample kits are a useful option for lung cancer screening.

If you don’t wish to be invited to this study, please contact the Southampton Lung Cancer Screening service to opt-out - 023 8120 8883 or email LCSops@uhs.nhs.uk.

📢 The M27 between Junctions 9 (Whiteley) to 11 (Fareham) will be closed in both directions from 8pm on 24 December 2025 until 4am on 4 January 2026.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

Lung cancer often has no symptoms in its early stages, which means three-quarters of patients are diagnosed too late.

The Lung Cancer Screening Programme helps detect problems earlier, before symptoms appear.

You may be eligible if you are:
• Aged 55 to 74
• A current or former smoker
• Registered with a Southampton or Totton GP

Detecting cancer sooner can increase the chances of better outcomes.

We are sponsoring the trial of a new blood test that could identify cancers in very early stages.

Over 450 patients have already taken part in Hampshire and Dorset, including Ian Robinson from Fawley (pictured). He says research is "absolutely vital" and hopes taking part can benefit future generations.

The study is being run by researchers from the University of Southampton in partnership with the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit and biotech company Proteotype Diagnostics.
