πŸš‘ Would you know what to do in a cardiac arrest? πŸš‘

When someone’s heart stops, early CPR can double or even triple their chances of survival. Knowing the correct technique could make all the difference.

πŸ’‘ Remember the ratio: 30:2

❀️ 30 Chest Compressions
Push hard and fast in the centre of the chest (100–120 per minute)

🫁 2 Rescue Breaths
Tilt the head back, lift the chin, and give 2 breaths until the chest rises

πŸ” Repeat continuously until help arrives or an AED is available

⚑ Early CPR + Defibrillation = Best chance of survival

You don’t need to be a professional to save a life β€” just the confidence to act.

At Bandaid First Aid Training, we teach real-life skills that prepare you for real emergencies.

πŸš‘ New First Aid Update: DRcABCDE πŸš‘

The latest guidance from the Resuscitation Council UK now teaches DRcABCDE as the primary approach when assessing a casualty during first aid.

This update highlights the importance of identifying catastrophic bleeding earlier in the assessment to help prevent life-threatening blood loss.

πŸ” DRcABCDE stands for:

D – Danger
Ensure the scene is safe for you, the casualty, and others.

R – Response
Check if the casualty is responsive.

c – Catastrophic Bleeding
Identify and control severe bleeding immediately.

A – Airway
Open and check the airway.

B – Breathing
Look, listen and feel for normal breathing.

C – Circulation
Check for signs of circulation and control bleeding.

D – Disability
Assess level of consciousness.

E – Exposure
Check for other injuries or medical issues.

This structured approach helps first aiders identify and prioritise life-threatening conditions quickly and provide the right care in the right order.

At Bandaid First Aid Training, we ensure all our courses are taught using the latest first aid guidance and best practices so learners are fully prepared to respond in real emergencies.

🚨 Recognise the Signs of a Stroke – Act FAST 🚨

A stroke is a medical emergency, and acting quickly can save a life and reduce brain damage. Knowing the signs could help you help someone when every second matters.

Remember F.A.S.T.:

πŸ‘€ F – Face
Is one side of the face drooping? Ask them to smile.

πŸ’ͺ A – Arms
Can they raise both arms? One arm may feel weak or drift down.

πŸ—£ S – Speech
Is their speech slurred or difficult to understand?

⏱ T – Time
If you notice any of these signs, call 999 immediately.

The faster someone receives treatment, the better their chances of recovery.

At Bandaid First Aid Training, we teach people how to recognise life-threatening emergencies and respond with confidence.

🚨 Every Second Counts in a Cardiac Emergency 🚨

When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, their chances of survival drop by about 10% for every minute without help. That’s why early CPR and rapid defibrillation can mean the difference between life and death.

❀️ Start CPR immediately
Strong, fast chest compressions keep blood flowing to the brain and vital organs.

⚑ Use a Defibrillator (AED) as soon as possible
AEDs are designed for the public to use. They give clear voice instructions and can deliver a lifesaving shock that can restart the heart.

πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ You don’t need to be a medical professional to save a life.
With the right training and confidence, anyone can step in and help before emergency services arrive.

At Bandaid First Aid Training, we teach the skills that turn bystanders into lifesavers.

e had a fantastic group for this week’s FREC3 course. Everyone passed with flying colours and that makes it even more rewarding.
Did you know that if someone has sustained trauma and has lost blood, it is vital to keep them warm. By doing this, it means their blood clots quicker and allows for a better oxygen flow rate in their blood.

Important instructions for choking: If they are red in the face and then turn blue, can’t cough and not talking or responding normally they are probably chocking! Follow these actions:
First ask are you chocking, encourage them to cough, if this doesn’t work use five firm back slaps between shoulder blades, if the object is still causing chocking, perform 5 abdominal thrusts. Repeat the process if necessary. If the casualty becomes unconscious, start CPR.

We held a Paediatric first-aid course for one of our schools today. Whilst conducting it is vital that you compress the chest to the correct depth. For an Infant it’s around 4cm, Child 5cm and an adult 6cm. It is also just as important to allow the chest to raise fully before repeating the compression. The compression rate should be around 120BPM. www.bfatraining.co.uk
