In response to a request for a blog on Health Anxiety here it is....
Tho not classed as a phobia it CAN show up as one .
Its common & manageable once you know how !
WHAT IS IT ?.
It is a constant fear of having a serious illness even when tests & Dr's tell you everything is ok .
It shows up as constantly checking symptoms , googling & worrying about every body sensation .
WHY DOES IT HAPPEN ?
Past illness or trauma
Stress & overthinking
Misinterpreting normal body sensations
Too much exposure to health info
Seeing a loved one experience a health crisis
Diffculty tolerating uncertainty
HOW TO MANAGE IT
Limit time you spend googling & checking symptoms eg no googling after 6pm
Challenge negative thoughts ask Is this True ?
What real evidence do I have to support this thought ?
Practice grounding techniques eg Cyclical breathing 2 short inhales 1 long exhale
Learn to accept uncertainty,
Name the emotion eg I am feeling ...& create space between the feeling & action, learn to sit with it .
Engage in Talk Therapy & IEMT
