The sole purpose of The Mobile Injury Clinic, since its birth in 2017, is and has always been to improve patient health and deliver expert treatment to those who may not have the time, effort or even the capability to travel to receive treatment and therapy. We often come across countless ads and products claiming to "improve" specific health conditions, or even magically "cure" ailments. While these quick fixes may seem tempting... should we really trust them? πŸ€”

Here are a few reasons why you should think twice before buying those miracle products and instead consult with a specialist in healthcare:

1️⃣ Lack of Scientific Evidence: Most of these products are NOT backed by sound scientific evidence, so they may not provide the promised benefits, and can potentially be harmful. πŸ”¬

2️⃣ One-Size-Fits-All: Our bodies are unique and complex, so a one-size-fits-all solution is NOT the answer. Your healthcare professional can provide personalized care that caters to your specific needs. 🌟

3️⃣ Misdiagnosis: By self-treating with these products, you might miss the true underlying cause of your condition. 😣 A healthcare professional can help you with a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈπŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈ

4️⃣ Money Wasted: Many of these "miracle cures" are expensive and offer no guarantees. Instead of wasting your hard-earned money, invest in seeing a specialist who can provide effective, evidence-based treatment. πŸ’Έ

Remember, your health is an investment, and no solution is worth it if it compromises your wellbeing. Trust in the expertise of healthcare professionals, and make informed decisions about your health. Stay safe, and prioritize your health! πŸ’ͺ🏽🌈

25/06/2023

Chondromalacia patella, refers to the painful condition in which the cartilage beneath the kneecap (patella) softens and degenerates. There are various factors that can lead to this condition, with vastus medialis weakness and improper gait being two potential contributing factors.

1. Vastus medialis weakness: The vastus medialis is one of the four quadriceps muscles responsible for knee extension and stabilization, and is important for maintaining proper tracking of the patella. Weakness in this muscle can result in improper patellar tracking, causing it to constantly rub against the underlying cartilage and eventually leading to chondromalacia patella.

2. Gait abnormalities: An individual's walking or running style, also known as gait, can contribute to chondromalacia patella. Abnormal gait patterns, such as overpronation, can put excessive stress on the knee joint, causing an imbalance in the forces surrounding the kneecap and eventually leading to cartilage degeneration.

There are several other factors that can contribute to chondromalacia patella:

1. Overuse or excessive training: Engaging in high-impact sports or activities, or overtraining, can produce repetitive stress on the patellofemoral joint, leading to cartilage deterioration.

2. Trauma or injury: Acute injuries or a history of knee trauma can damage the underlying cartilage and result in chondromalacia patella.

3. Misalignment issues: Anatomical misalignment of the patella or lower limb can lead to uneven pressure distribution on the patellar cartilage, resulting in wear and tear.

4. Age: The natural aging process can lead to cartilage degeneration and an increased risk for chondromalacia patella.

5. Obesity: Excess weight places increased stress on the knee joint, which can cause accelerated cartilage wear.

6. Gender: Females may have a higher risk for this condition due to wider hips, which can result in a greater angle at the knee and increased stress on the patellofemoral joint.

Managing chondromalacia patella often involves addressing the underlying causes, such as strengthening the vastus medialis muscle and correcting gait abnormalities with physical therapy and orthotic devices. In more severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary.

πŸŒŸπŸ”¬Pain Science & Physical Therapy: An Evolving Understanding 🧠πŸ’ͺ

The old way of thinking saw pain as a simple input-output process. But we now know that pain is a complex experience modulated by a person's emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and social environment.

🧠 The Brain's Role in Pain
Our brain plays a crucial role in interpreting and processing pain signals. The sensation of pain is the result of a multi-faceted experience, rather than a direct response to damage in our body. When we understand this concept, we can better tailor personalized pain management strategies for our patients.

🀝 The Biopsychosocial Model
The biopsychosocial model acknowledges that pain isn't only affected by physical factors, but also by psychological and social ones. Therapists working with this model put emphasis on the patients' thoughts, emotions, coping strategies, and social support systems, in addition to their physical conditions.

πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ A Holistic Approach to Physical Therapy
Combining traditional physical therapy methods with techniques that address the mental and social aspects of pain, therapists can provide a well-rounded approach to treatment. This may include:

1️⃣ Education on pain science to help patients understand their pain experience.
2️⃣ Cognitive-behavioral strategies to address negative thoughts and beliefs related to pain.
3️⃣ Encouragement of gradually increasing activity levels despite the presence of pain.

In conclusion, the growing understanding of pain science and its implications for physical therapy has changed how we approach pain management. By incorporating the biopsychosocial model into treatment plans, we can more effectively help our patients on their journey to recovery.

Why does my neck and back pain keep reoccurring? πŸ€” πŸ’ Do not leave this untreated…

Some common reasons include:

πŸ’ͺ🏼 Muscle imbalances: Weak or tight muscles can cause strain on your lower back, leading to pain that may come and go depending on your level of activity or the specific movements you perform.

πŸ€• Injury: An underlying injury, such as a herniated disc, fracture, or muscle strain, can lead to recurring pain as the affected area may not have fully healed, or the injury creates additional strain on surrounding tissues.

🦴 Degenerative conditions: Conditions like osteoarthritis or degenerative disc disease can cause ongoing pain and discomfort that comes and goes over time as the condition progresses.

🧊 Inflammation: Inflammatory conditions, such as ankylosing spondylitis, can cause recurring back pain due to the periodic flare-ups associated with these conditions.

🧠 Psychological factors: Stress, anxiety, and depression can make you more sensitive to pain or exacerbate existing discomfort.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Lifestyle factors: Prolonged sitting, poor ergonomics, poor posture, incorrect lifting techniques, and sedentary habits can contribute to back pain and make it return over time.

πŸƒπŸ½β€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Lack of exercise: A sedentary lifestyle can lead to muscle weakness, inflexibility, and poor core strength, making you more susceptible to recurring back pain.

πŸ”πŸŒ Weight: Being overweight or obese can place additional strain on your back muscles and spinal joints, leading to recurring pain.

To address recurring back pain, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional to receive a proper diagnosis and personalized recommendations for pain management and treatment. This could include incorporating physical therapy, exercise, proper posture, stress reduction, or medication into your pain management routine. Regular preventative measures like stretching and strengthening can also help reduce the likelihood of recurring back pain.
