Sharon Horwood Counselling

Sharon Horwood Counselling I'm a therapeutic counsellor. I had a life changing medical trauma in 2005. I am the person to listen and accompany you on your journey of exploration.

The impact it had on me & people in my life, motivated me to help anyone facing transitions in their life and young people navigating their future. Hi, my name is Sharon and I am a talking therapist, or should I say a listening therapist? Are you stressed with day to day life or have you had a LIFE CHANGING EVENT and need to process it, in order to accept it? I have experienced Acquired Brain Injury that impacted me and my family; this took years to come back from but we are all getting there. I also love working with young people. You face so much pressure to choose! Whether exams, getting the right work, university, or the thought of saving to move out. In my previous career I used to work with and train young people to aspire to their best life. I work online and from Prittlewell House, Southend-on-sea.

The Balance Between Boundaries and Kindness 💚

We’ve all heard about the importance of setting boundaries, and rightly so. But here’s something worth considering: boundaries aren’t about building walls around ourselves.

Yes, protect your energy. Yes, prioritize your wellbeing. But also remember that acts of kindness that cost us nothing can genuinely bring us joy.

When helping someone doesn’t drain your emotional reserves, compromise your values, or steal time from your own needs … it’s okay to say yes. Sometimes making others happy makes us happy too.

Even something as simple as a phone call or text to a family member or friend to show them you’re thinking of them … that costs nothing but can mean everything.

Healthy boundaries aren’t about saying no to everything. They’re about knowing when your “yes” comes from genuine care rather than obligation, guilt, or self-sacrifice.

The key? Check in with yourself: Does this cost me something I can’t afford to give right now? If the answer is no, your kindness isn’t compromising, it’s connecting.

What are your thoughts on balancing boundaries with generosity?

🌟If you’ve ever thought “I just don’t understand why they can’t…” – this one’s for you.

✨It’s so easy to feel frustrated when someone doesn’t handle things the way you would. When they seem to overreact, shut down, or make choices that don’t make sense to you.

🌟Here’s the thing: you’re judging from your own experience, and that’s completely natural. You can only see the world through the life you’ve lived.

✨If you learned to cope by staying busy, rest might genuinely look like avoidance to you. If you were taught that asking for help is strength, independence might feel like weakness. If emotions were safe in your home, emotional restraint might seem cold.

🌟You’re not wrong for thinking this way. You’re human.

✨But here’s what’s also true: the person you’re struggling to understand is doing the same thing - they’re viewing the world through their lens, shaped by experiences completely different from yours.

🌟Neither of you is right or wrong. You’ve just lived different lives.

✨Recognizing this doesn’t mean you have to agree with everyone or abandon your boundaries. It just means giving yourself permission to say, “I SEE IT DIFFERENTLY, so do they AND THATS OK."

🌟This kind of self-compassion, understanding why we think the way we do, can actually make it easier to extend compassion to others.

✨If you’d like gentle support exploring your patterns and perspectives, I’m here to help.

To all of my lovely clients and my prospective ones too! 👋

Just wanted to let you know I’ll be taking a little break from October 15th to 20th to recharge my batteries.

We all need time to step back and reset don’t we? it’s so important to avoid burnout and take care of ourselves so we can show up as our best selves for the people and things we care about. So I’m practising what I preach too.

I’ll be back on the 21st, refreshed and ready to go! If anything urgent comes up, contact the Samaritans on 116 123 or ring 111. Feel free to drop me a message and I’ll get back to you when I return.

Thanks for understanding! 💙
