New placemats on maternity wards at Broomfield, Basildon and Southend Hospitals are helping parents feel supported during their stay.

The wipe‑clean placemats include clear, practical information from visiting hours and discharge checklists to chaplaincy contacts and infant feeding support - all within easy reach at the bedside.

Developed with the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP), patient experience team, clinicians and specialists, they’re designed to be safe, practical and patient‑focused.

Sarah Soanes, Lead Midwife for Patient Experience, said: “It was essential to make sure we included the information most important to patients and their families during their hospital stay. Having the placemats on hand means parents can easily refer to important details whenever they need to.”

This simple initiative is helping families feel informed, confident and cared for as they prepare to go home.
