Pilates has become very popular over the years. It is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. The exercises can be layered according to fitness levels. They are slow, controlled and flowing, working all muscle groups leaving the body conditioned and balanced, and primarily strengthening the core muscles that stabilise the spine.
A healthy spine exhibits four natural curves. They increase the spines strength, help to maintain balance in an upright position, help protect the vertebral column from fracture and absorb shock from walking. Distortion of the natural curvature of the spine will create different posture types often caused by weak muscles, weak ligaments, genetics, injury and simply poor posture and so on.
Pilates helps to realign the body and helps correct postural problems, bringing mind and body together to create a body awareness.
