As the government commits to introducing new legislation this spring as part of the Crime and Policing Bill following the Southport incident, it may be mandatory for retailers to ask anyone buying a knife for two types of identification to reduce the "shockingly easy" access to blades online.

There is a clear link between the reduction in the number of youth centres and an increase in knife crime due to the decimation in youth work funding.
