🔑 Key Roles of a Sports Therapist
1️⃣ Injury Prevention
- Assess movement patterns, posture, and biomechanics to spot risks.
- Provide exercise programmes to reduce the chance of injuries.
- Offer advice on warm-up, cool-down, and load management.
2️⃣ Injury Assessment & Diagnosis
- Examine injuries (like sprains, strains, back or shoulder pain).
- Perform special tests to identify what tissue/structure is affected.
- Explain injuries clearly to clients and outline recovery expectations.
3️⃣ Treatment & Rehabilitation
- Use hands-on techniques such as sports massage, joint mobilisations, or stretching.
- Provide exercise rehabilitation programmes to restore strength, mobility, balance, and function.
- Help clients progress from initial recovery through to full return to activity.
4️⃣ Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Therapy
- Reduce muscle tension and soreness.
- Aid recovery post-training or competition.
- Improve circulation and flexibility.
5️⃣ Performance Support
- Work with athletes during training/competitions to manage niggles and maintain peak condition.
- Apply taping or strapping techniques for support.
- Give advice on nutrition, hydration, and recovery strategies.
6️⃣ First Aid & Acute Injury Management
- Respond to injuries pitch-side or in training environments.
- Provide immediate care (e.g., for sprains, dislocations, concussion).
