✨ The Big Fat Indian Wedding – a little insight for you all… ✨
I’ve had so many lovely messages asking about the wedding, so I thought I’d share a little glimpse into the traditions and celebrations 💛
The first day begins with Karai, where all the wedding cooking starts — setting the tone for days full of food, family, and celebration.
We then move into the pre-wedding events:
Photo 1 💃 Ladies Sangeet – a night of music, dancing, and laughter with the women, full of traditional songs and fun moments.
Photo 2 🌿 Maiyaan – a beautiful blessing ceremony, including turmeric application for glowing skin, good luck, and protection.
Photo 3 🌸 Mehndi – one of my favourites! Intricate henna designs, dancing, and celebrations — the darker the mehndi, the more love and luck it represents.
Photo 4 🥁 Jaggo – the most energetic night! Music, dancing through the streets, and “waking up” the neighbourhood with joy and celebration.
Photo 5 🎉 Street Party – celebrations between the houses — because why not!
Photo 6 💍 Wedding Day Traditions
My son had the honour of being Best Man, which made it even more special 🤍
✨ Placing the Kalgi on the groom’s turban — symbolising honour and royalty
✨ Applying surma for blessings
Photo 7 🚗 Wedding Car – the groom and my son on their way to the ceremony
Photo 8 🤝 Milni – where both families formally meet, greet, and celebrate coming together as one
Photo 9 💖 Ceremony – the beautiful bride and groom and the wedding ceremony itself
Honestly… it was everything you imagine —
non-stop dancing, incredible food, lots of laughter, and so much love.
Now I’m back home with a mountain of laundry, a week’s worth of sleep to catch up on, and a heart completely full 🥹✨
Thank you again for all your kind messages — it means so much 🤍
