Thank you to my client for allowing me to share this update of 6 weeks of consistent scar care (1st photo was initial assessment only) following internal fixation of a clavicle fracture.
This visual serves to demonstrate that scar care is not only beneficial to ensure optimal healing visually and minimise physical symptoms, which can have a negative impact on a persons day-to-day living but most importantly the client is well equipped to monitor their personal healing , alongside professional support, and confidently carry out self-care to positively impact their wellbeing.
This client finds physical touch uncomfortable at this point, not only due to the altered physical sensation of the scar and surrounding tissue itself, but also due to the trauma associated with how the scar came to be. This is common and completely normal and thus treatment has been tailored to the individual whilst remaining effective and keeping the overall outcome goals of the client at heart.
Whilst hands-on scar massage techniques (I offer here in clinic) can offer positive effects for the optimal healing of scars their use must first and foremost be with the understanding and consent of the client with clear communication at all times. Scar Therapy is much more than just hand-on techniques, its education and confidence and supporting self-care. This client has achieved this progression with the use of , silicone sheets and silicone gel. All industry recommended topical products developed for optimal scar recovery.
If you have scarring (trauma, surgical or burns) or impending surgery that you would like support with but have questions and reservations then please do call for a chat and I will happily talk you through all the options.
