Sarah Harrison Counselling Services

Sarah Harrison Counselling Services MBACP Accredited Counsellor offering; Counselling Transformational Coaching and Supervision (F2F in St Neots. Online and Telephone - UK wide).

I work with adults and children (12+) in St Neots and online, guiding them to explore their inner world with curiosity rather than judgment. As self-understanding and acceptance grow, so does the ability to make thoughtful, supportive changes in their lives and relationships.

I combine breathwork, body awareness and creative approaches to gently explore the thoughts, feelings and sensations that can sometimes feel overwhelming. This might include guided meditation, putting pen, chalk or crayons to paper, or gentle role play such as parts work through Internal Family Systems (IFS).

Alongside this, I offer a calm, non-judgemental space where you can be fully listened to and supported to notice what your body and mind may be holding. I have found these ways of working can be very helpful in moving beyond the thinking mind, which we often rely on so heavily, and gently tapping into what may be happening underneath.

People often come with anxiety, stress, depression, past trauma, confidence challenges or other emotional difficulties. As we begin to release what the body and mind have been holding, words can flow more easily, feelings can move through, and you may find yourself feeling more present and able to move forward in a more relaxed way.

Wellbeing Tip

As a counsellor, I always encourage supporting your own wellbeing. Self-care can really help with:

• Reducing stress and anxiety
• Creating moments of calm
• Supporting your immune system
• Improving overall balance and wellbeing

Today, as I felt the onset of a cold, I came across a lovely breathing technique that reminded me to share some helpful videos from my YouTube channel.

The videos I’m sharing today are created by others (not my content), but they’re ones I’ve found helpful and worth passing on. They include meditation both guided and non, chi gong, yoga, breathwork and more will be added over time.

Feel free to comment and share any videos you’ve found helpful too — it’s always lovely to support each other.

A small update on availability…(Weds and Thurs)

At the start of February, my practice was fully booked. Some clients are nearing the end of their therapeutic journey and ready to continue on their own. It’s always a genuine privilege to witness people grow in confidence and move towards greater stability, comfort and wellbeing - whatever it is they most need when they first arrive in therapy.

This means, a small number of daytime appointments have become available in starting in April.

*Current April availability:*
• Wednesdays – daytime
• Thursdays – daytime
(Please feel free to enquire about specific times, as availability can change quickly)

If you’ve been thinking about starting counselling, or were waiting for a space to become available, you’re very welcome to get in touch for more information or to arrange an initial session.

Please feel free to share this with anyone who might be looking for support. I offer short, mid and long term therapy depending on a person’s needs which is discussed at the beginning and reviewed throughout your sessions.

“Neurons that fire together wire together"...some of you may have heard this before. So what does it really mean?

In simple terms: the thoughts and actions we repeat become stronger.
The ones we stop practicing begin to weaken.

This is why change can feel so hard.

Old habits are deeply wired. They run automatically. They require less effort because your brain knows them well. The brain prefers familiarity and patterns — even when those patterns aren’t helpful.

Real change doesn’t usually come from huge bursts of effort.
It comes from consistency.

Think of your brain like a forest:

The path you walk every day becomes wide and clear.
The path you stop using gets overgrown.
A new path feels awkward at first — uneven, uncomfortable, unfamiliar.
But if you walk it daily, it becomes the main road.

And here’s the hopeful part:

Anxiety patterns can weaken.
Negative self-talk can fade.
Confidence can be built.

With repetition, new patterns become natural.

Change isn’t about forcing.
It’s about practicing — gently, consistently, and patiently.

I don’t know about you, but I have definitely stayed on some trains far longer than I should have.

And the truth is… if you’d asked me at the time whether I was making the right choice by staying, I would have had to admit that deep down, I already knew I should have stepped off.

Sometimes we stay because we can’t be absolutely sure getting off is the right decisions. We want to give it more time, more opportunities, more solutions. We stay for hope, for longing, because we feel stuck, because we can’t see a way off. We can even stay because we’ve invested so much and leaving feels like failure and defeat. The list goes on and on….

The “wrong train” is rarely dramatic at first. It’s subtle. Rationalised. Explained away. We tell ourselves to give it time. To try harder. To be patient. To endure.

But the longer we stay somewhere misaligned, the more it costs us in energy, in confidence, in peace, well being. We pay for it in the health of our mind, body and spirit.

So here’s the truth:
Getting off early is never failure.
Changing direction is not weakness.
Choosing yourself is not selfish.

It is wisdom.

You are allowed to step off.
You are allowed to reroute.
You are allowed to say, “This isn’t for me.”
You are allowed to change your mind.

Your life is precious.
Your energy is sacred.
And you are the only one holding the ticket.

So if you get on the wrong train, be sure to get off at the first stop. It’s hugely inconvenient but it’s easier in the long run.

With love,
Fiona

Not all counsellors are created equal – and choosing the right one matters more than you think.

The right counsellor will not only have the right qualifications, but will also create a space where you feel safe, heard, and genuinely supported. Therapy should feel collaborative, ethical, and grounded in respect – not rushed, pressured, or one-sided.

If you are considering counselling, save this checklist and use it as a guide. You deserve support that feels safe, empowering, and aligned with your needs. 💓

I’m truly honoured that so many people are reaching out, and it’s a privilege to support people on their journey toward a happier, healthier life.

With that in mind, I want to share that I currently have no availability for new clients at this time. However, my care for your wellbeing doesn’t stop because I am fully booked. So if it feels ok to wait, I’m offering a waiting list but if your situation feels more urgent, I’m also very happy to provide referrals to other trusted counsellors or coaches if that feels more helpful at this time.

Thank you for your understanding
